I am posting this for a friend who also has a dachsie... This is her wording.
Some of you already know that my 15 month old 8 1/2 pound wonder, Camilla, has fear and anxiety of the outdoors. There are exceptions - dog park, places that have no cars and no noise. Outside of that, she refuses to go outdoors without a humongous fight. I cannot walk her near the road, or at all during times of more traffic noise. Before the fear was gripping (by six months) she was doing GREAT with hosuebreaking. Then we decided to go by way of the litter box. We have a huge kitchen, and have a litter box on one side in a corner behind cabinets. It worked beautifull in here. She always uses it.
Fast forward to taking down the kitchen gate....she tries to poop under the piano...so we gated that room. She poops in the entry hallway on the rug...can't wall that off. Then when she's upstairs she poops in my kids' rooms.

I can't take it anymore. i tried the confine, confine, confine. I can't have her tied to me all the time b/c she will choke herself on a leash trying to go places and I will get no rest and be unable to work in my house. She's almost 100% in the master bedroom (we have litter box in the walk in closet and she's great with it). It's almost as if she just doesn't THINK about it when she has to go and she's out of those two places. I don't know WHY. I did everything the trainer suggested. They did conclude (trainers, vets, etc.) that she CANNOT be trained out of her fear. she won't even eat PRIME RIB when she has the fear outdoors. She won't do a thing but strain on her leash to get indoors, and she will pull so hard she chokes herself. I mean, BAD. She's not overly food motivated (she's not a big eater but loves people food of course but not willing to go in the box for it). I'm sick and tired of having to clean up poop after her. I'm overwhelmed by my complete inability to train her. i didn't think I'd end up with a dog with such fear that I cannot even take her out on walks. I mean WHAT KIND OF DOG HAS FEAR????? I think it came from a plane ride when we got her at 10 wks from a breeder. Not only would I never buy from a breeder again (RESCUE!), but I'd NEVER EVER EVER EVER put a dog on a plane. i've learned my lesson but i'm affraid it's too late for us. I'm so discouraged and want to go hide. i just want a trainable dog from a housebreaking perspective. But that isn't gonna happen.
I will not use the crate...b/c she doesn't need it in the kitchen. I just put her in there when I leave and gate it, b/c she doesn't seem to have accidents in there. I just wish I could have a dog that can go past the kitchen door without pooping on my rugs or in my kids' rooms. She is beyond frustrating.
HELP!!!! PLEASE!
