    Possible new dog?

    http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=6088223

I'm going to meet this fella tomorrow morning at 10 am. I'll be changing his name if I take him home, that's for sure. Nothing like a misspelled name, arrgghh!

He's really a year and a half old. This rescue is very picky, so I'll be nervous. They are also VERY expensive for this area, in fact, they are the most expensive in Alaska. And yet, they've never heartworm tested this guy! He came in from out of state with a military family. So I told them I wouldn't adopt him unless he was heartworm negative. I can't afford to pay that much for a dog who I don't know is healthy. The rescue readily agreed to test him.

He reminds me a litte of Stevie....they say he's a real cuddler. We'll know more tomorrow. Eeeeeeeeee

Good luck! Adoption fee doesn't look too bad, if vets are as expensive up there as I've heard from Cardi friends. How common is heartworm up there, anyway?

Alaska doesn't have heartworm in the Interior. But this dog came up from the Lower 48. Most mountain curs are from the south...so see what I mean?

The adoption fee is $250. Highest in the state.

Well, Jean, he's no Elkie, but he sure does look sweet!  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

That's high for us, too (not the area necessarily, just personaly).  And, as you said, one you don't know the health of.  That's why we looked at breeders as well as rescue.

    Anyway- Good luck tomorrow!

Good luck! Are you going to bring Sofia?

How exciting!  Good luck!  I'm sure your girl will enjoy having a "brother". [:)]

What a gorgous dog! Good luck, he looks like such a sweetie!

Well, it isn't going to happen today. I woke up and the temperature is 36 below. It's an hour's drive to North Pole, where the dog is. The clutch on my truck doesn't work after 25 below. I've plugged in my old Toyota but it's not going to be ready in time to get out there and back before I have to work.

Sooooo, sorry to get us all excited. We'll just have to wait until it warms up to -20 or above! [:@]

More bad news. He's not fully housetrained. I was told he was housetrained by the rescue, but the foster mom says that he does have "accidents" in the house. He is crate trained, however.

That doesn't totally rule him out, but it also doesn't sound like it would be that easy.

The foster mom has boxers and the way she talked it sounded like she wasn't very committed to having any of them fully housetrained, ie: she tolerates them going indoors. Not a good thing. [:@]

    -36!

If he's the one, it'll happen.  Hang in there.  He is a doll.

I havent had a foster dog yet who hasnt housetrained within a week (usually a lot less).

    Good luck to you :)

With not having a back door into a fenced yard, with having to take the dogs out on leashes every single time...with it being almost 40 below, you can see why I'm less than enthusiastic!

Eek!  Sounds like you'll have your work cut out.  But I'm sure he'll be worth it.  He looks GORGEOUS.  Just get him outside as often as you can and bake up some liver cake!

Good luck to you if you get the dog.
