Well, I didn't think it was possible, but...

I TOUGHT RILEY TO SIT UP!

I don't know how he learned it so fast.  I swear, he learned it in 10 minutes.  I'm not exaggerating, either!  It looks like this:

So how'd you do it? I have had no success with that trick.

Hehe, I think some dogs have a certain knack for it and some just..don't [:D]  Cairo learned this almost instantly (to be honest I forgot how we taught it to him, it was that long ago!) and does it so naturally.  He does it all the time.  I tried teaching it to Nikki but her body shape doesn't quite fit it.  She can get the concept and she tries so hard...but she can't figure out what to do with her front legs!  Usually she sticks 'em way up in the air which looks pretty silly.  Half the time she ends up falling backwards onto her back!

This is what Nikki's beg looks like:

Oh don't say that.  My first basenji did that.  I would make a gun with my fingers and say "Stick 'em up".  Waaaaayyyy cute!!!!!

Indy took 4+ years to learn it, but now is very good at it. :) (Don't have a photo, though.)

Max learned that in puppy school.  The instructor had me hold the treat over his head more toward the back and say "sit pretty" and I guess when their heads go back the front feet come up. [:D]

I think terrier/shaped bodies learn this trick better. I have never seen Sam in anything like  a beg, and I don't think he can/will.

It's soooo cute, isn't it? I taught Emma to sit up a couple of years ago, and now she does it ALL THE TIME. I just love it. She's adorable[:)] She sits up on my lap, and sits up when she wants treats. She also sits up when waitresses approach. It's a cute trick.

Rocky is my brother's dog who knows so many tricks.  Rocky does sit up which is cute, but my favorite trick is after he plays dead...lays on side all flat...my brother will say road kill and rocky will roll over on his back and ;put all four paws up in the air.  I laugh every time I see Rocky do this :)

    Congrats - so cute!

I never got my Sheltie to do a good beg - she tried, but kept falling over, poor girl. I think a lot has to do with the dog's balance/conformation.

That pic of Nikki is so cute!

Maybe it's true that terriers are better at that trick... I have tried it so many times with Russell, using a lure - he just backs up. If I try it with a wall behind him he just moves to the side. [8|]

I think short legged dogs are good at it too...their lack of legs probably helps them balance [:)]

I tried to teach Bronx that but his butt was just to round and he kept falling over... Kudos for teaching your dog that!

Here's one of my grandpuppy's doing "Sit Pretty"...lol, it is a very cute trick...

Don't worry, aussiegirl and cita, your dogs could do this (Sequoyah's first weave through my legs):
