    Study: Dogs Prefer Winners

    Has anybody seen that?

Dogs, like humans, seem to enjoy watching playful competitions among others, and they even gravitate toward winners at the end of the game, according to a recent Animal Behavior journal study that analyzed canine spectators.

I wish it were so.  When my 3 GDs engage in the tug-o-war game, Marvin attempts to join in, gets frustrated because he can't reach that high, and then nipps their legs in order to spoil their fun.

That  is an interesting study, although I don't necessarily agree with it 100%. Most dogs would befriend the more powerful dogs, however what if a dog who has a lower position in a group wanted to move up ranks and tries to befriend the less powerful dogs in order to gain control over them. Sorry if I'm being confusing (I'm just thinking). Having seen (usually smaller breeds) confront the less powerful dogs in a park... I wonder if a situation like this one would mean a fight for alpha position. Maybe I'll use something similar to this for my animal behavior study thesis this semester.

I'd ask the dogs of some homeless people about this. It's always amazed me that some of the homeless actually have dogs and take care of them as well as they can.

Sounds like the canine version of "I get next." [:D]

how did they decide who won? when I watch dogs engaging in playful competitions (wrestle, tug of war, chase games) there don't seem to be winners and losers, everydog just participates.
