How to deal with an overstimulated dog?

Hercules is 8 months old (and neutered) and just recently seems to occasionally get over stimulated.  When this happens he will bark, jump and bite (he hasn't bitten since he was 2-3 months old).  I have completetly ignored him when he starts this or givin him a time out.  I think this is working because he pulled the same thing last night, but didn't bite, so I am hoping he is getting the hint.

I think what is happening is Hercules has just seen snow for the first time, and goes crazy outside in it.  He love to run around, roll and bury himself in it.  When we come back inside he still wants to be crazy.  I have heard that when a dog gets an adrenaline rush it could last a couple days (is this true?).

So my question is, what is the best way to deal with or calm an over stimulated dog?

In my opinion, ignoring him or redirecting the behavior would be best.  Probably the ignoring until he calms down.  The last thing you want to do is reward the behavior by giving him what he wants or offering treats.  But that's just my humble opinion.  Others may be of more help.  He'll eventually get it if you constantly ignore the behavior.  Hope this helps!![;)]

Time out is an excellent instinct. He can't help it, silly puppy. [:D] He'll learn soon to control himself if you don't encourage it or let him keep doing it (which self-reinforces). We often tie out or crate our dogs after an intense training session - there's a lot to sort out in their brains and it's better if they don't have to worry about behaving, too. [;)]
