    hi all
       i am new here and also a first time dog owner.  my 10 lb maltipoo has a small sore on left front paw which he insists on licking and licking.  i did see the vet and he is on antibiotics and 2x per day soaking.  she said it was a slight infection.  any tips on how to stop the licking.  i am afraid it won't ever heal completely because of this.

    While you are trying to get the spot to heal, you can try a bitter apple spray so he will stop licking. I like to use a spray called Allercaine because it has an antiseptic to prevent infection, lidocaine for pain & itch releif, and a bitter ingredient to keep the licking under control.

    If this problem continues, you mey have to investigate the possibility of allergies. Some allergies are food related and can be helped by changing foods. Some are environmental and you may have to find other ways to control them.

    Did the vet give you an elizabethan collar for your pup to wear (one of those lamp-shade looking things)? I'd put one of those on until it heals. If he keeps licking that same spot after it has healed and you take the collar off, then there's probably a deeper issue such as allergies.
