Oh, my heart goes out to you and your parents on this horribly sad night.  Having lost our dog almost a year ago after months of failing health, I know just what they were facing a few hours ago.  Unfortunately for us, we had to go to the e-vet late one night.  I have to live with regret that eats at me to this day that Tonka wasn't able to spend his final moments in familiar surroundings.  I hope it's some comfort to your parents that Joe was in his own home, his own bed, with loving hands on his body and familiar voices in his ear.  If our precious furbabies have to leave us, it must be better if it's in such a peaceful manner.  Especially for Joe, who had separation anxiety.  Familiarity right until his last breath I'm sure was a comfort for him.

He was very beautiful, and clearly loved and well cared for to have lived such a long life.  Run free Joe -- and watch over your family as they struggle to adjust to life without you in their daily routine.  [sm=angel.gif]

I'm so sorry for your loss.  He sounds like a wonderful, giving dog and I am glad for everyone that his last moments were spent in his home, with his people.  Run free, Joe. [sm=angel.gif]

What a wonderful thing he did for your folks -- that's an unusual thing.  He said 'bye' and walked over the Bridge because he KNEW it would comfort them to hold him while he went.  And when he got to the bottom of the Bridge, he was met by this huge crowd -- I'm firmly convinced they all find each other -- these dogs who knew friends of friends.

This will be a tough way to remember New Year's Eve for your folks -- but  how wonderful you could help ease this for them.  Please please invite your folks to see these posts AND to see that wonderful thread of "welcome at the Bridge" -- it's a marvelous visual for folks.  It really helps.

Wonderful dobes are wonderful dogs.  I've known several and they can be such awesome dogs.  My condolences to your folks -- their 'plan' was a good one and my guess is he 'knew' of their decision and he simply let go for them.  What a guy!

Sail away Joe, I'm sure there's a lovely lake over the Bridge.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. He was a gorgeous boy. At least Joe's last moments were spent surrounded by those he loved, and in the comfort of his own home. Run free, sweet boy.

Im very sorry for you and your family.  Its been said, and I know its hard to focus on right now, but as the grieving period goes on the fact that he was with them both in his home and went peacefully with the ones he loved will become ever so important.  Its a beautiful thing.  Run free Joe.[sm=angel.gif]  He was just gorgeous.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I am at work and cannot stop my tears from rolling down my face....that was a sad way to end the year and to start a new one; however I am glad that Joe went to the Bridge in the home and with the people who respected and loved him and gave him the security that he needed.

    Run free Joe.[sm=angel.gif]
