    breed ?

Hi All, Our family just adopted Tammy from the local shelter and we're really not sure what breed she is.  All they told us is possibly mixed with chihuahua.  They said that she is at her maximum size and about 1-2 yrs old.  Can anyone help us figure out what breed she may be by just looking at her? and Would bringing her to the vet give me a more definate answer about her breed and age? Either way we love her already and she is a great addition to the family. Thanks in advance

Well, all I can tell is that he/she isn't a purebred.

Bringing her to the vet is a good idea in general but I think she looks mostly like a Heinz 57... or maybe just a Heinz 7. [:)] Hard to say if a vet will give you a better idea, they are pretty much like us in that regard - some will be great at IDing breeds and others won't. Looks like your little girl is already in love, congrats on adopting!

There might be a little staffy in there going by the head shape and the ears.... (????? just a guess!!!!)  and the shoulders too, although that might just be the way shes sitting.  Probably a mix of more than 2 breeds, so its tricky to tell.

She looks lovely by the way - glad to see you got your avatar sorted out!

Of course she's a mutt, but the look in her eyes is just wonderful! You got a good one there!

She is very cute. She looks be a little Staffie looking, a little Lab looking. She is the ideal size for a great companion for children.

Maybe a little bit of hound? I'm not sure about it, but she is cute!

Thanks all for the comments. She is just the cutest thing i've seen (besides my human children of course ha ha).  We spent our first night together and she was absolutely great.  She slept with me and my 3 yr old on the pull out sofa so I could make sure she went out when she needed to.  To my amazment she only got up at 5am to go out and then knocked back out on the bed.  I wish I had that luck with my kids when they were babies LOL.

Sounds like she's found herself a wonderful home. [:)]

She almost looks like a terrier to me, in size, and her eyes and face structure seem terrier-like.

short, brown, smooth coat, pointy ears...looks like the genetic norm!

No Staffie, but I'm thinking Beagle/Terrier.

Whoever said "Heinz 57" I think was absolutely right.

She looks just like a dog I'd picture as a mixed breed, very cute! I'm not sure how they got a Chihuahua mix, with a dog of that size!

I say the same thing.  "How in the world did they figure a chihuahua mix with a dog of her size?"  My hubby and I joke that if it was indeed a chihuahua then the poor thing must have been "violated" by a bigger dog given the size they usually are. HA HA!!
