Do you wish your dog had a more creative name?

I like my dogs names and wouldn't change them now..but two of them I did change when I got them.

Darby was named Romeo when I got him and there was no way I was going to stand outside hollering Romeo at 6 am and have my neighbors think I was desperate..so I changed it. I was watching the movie Darby O'Gill and the Little People and thought Darby would be a fitting name.

Annie came to us at nearly two years of age as a foster. Her name was Cheyanne and I didn't care for it. It did not fit her at all. I wanted to keep it sounding similar so it became Annie. I called her "Little Orphan Annie"(she is a red merle and white) ..my daughter would get mad at me for calling her that..I guess since Annie became her dog and moved from foster dog to permanent resident..the joke is on me!

Dooley got his name as the result of a vote of family and friends. One of my children..I cannot remember which one, thought it would be a great idea to have each of us pick a name, place it on a list, and let friends and other family members vote. The choices were, Quigley, Finnigan, Flynn(my choice) and Dooley. Much to my dismay...Dooley won. His name is as much a part of him now..as the uncontrollable wiggle in his butt..I could never change it.

Witt is my dog..all mine! I named him and didn't ask for opinions or votes this time. I was trying to come up with a name that conveyed his comical nature. He is very smart and quite the goof...I also thought a cowboy name would be cool. I love old westerns and such. I happened to go to a rodeo with friends and saw a bullrider named Witt something..and yes it was spelled that way. Wit means a sense of humor and it just sort of clicked that this was going to be his name. People mispell it all the time..usually spelling it Whit. I find myself  repeating it all the time for people. If I say I named him that because he is a witty dog..they tell me wit is spelled with one t. I stopped explaining =) To make matters worse...I got in the habit of baby talking him and calling him Wittness...I bought him a collar with this nick name on it and now people tell me I've mispelled that too! I don't mind...I love his name and I think he loves it too.

David Bowie named his son Zowie Bowie, but the son changed his name to Duncan (which is the most boring British name imaginable) so i wanted to name Arlo DUNCAN instead in honor of that story...but my british friends talked me out of it.

HEEEEYYYYY! Duncan is a grand name! Especially with a Scottish surname! (I had an Uncle Duncan Bruce. And probably quite a few more Duncans farther back, too.) [:D]

I don't like to name my animals 'people' names that I hear daily. I just don't like a lot of them. Names in other languages are okay, though, and were common growing up. Since my grandmother is Japanese most pets were given a Japanese name so she could say them easily (Haha, even my own name Alicia was 'changed' to Ari by her). A few didn't, but most of them did. I liked all their names.

The last dog we owned I actually named myself, since I bought him. He was Solusek Ro, the Burning Prince. Not so creative in the fact that I stole it from a game, but no one else had that name. It was grand to call out the whole thing when he was in trouble! :p

Keeping with that theme, my future dogs will also have the names of Deities from that game, at least the next two we're planning to get. Xegony is just so perfect for a papillon, since she's 'the queen of air' and has butterfly wings.. [;)] Xegony just seems like it would be great to call out (zeg-o-neeeeee!).
Fennin Ro, the Tyrant of Fire for our minpin - since Solusek was a minpin too.. I adore the name Fennin.

I might be one of those people who occasionally wishes she named her dogs less strange things.. but I love odd names most of the time. Solusek was strange, but it worked out so well. I hope for repeats of that. ;)
