What should we call each other?

    • Gold Top Dog
I pretty much answer to anything.  Mom, D, Mema,...
Hideandseek came from a mare I owned and that was her name.  Now that I found my best bud Chief I suppose I will at some point have to come up with another user name to use ;)

first name, user name, dog's name - who cares?  It's better than being addressed as "hey you" or "yo, dumbsh*t".[sm=rofl.gif]

Call me whatever you like[:D] My name is Kim, but, I'll always be a Boxermom[sm=dance.gif]

cairnterriers, thank you for the exercise.  For those that was curious about what you were talking about they had to figure out who David is. If they did not know who David is then they had to scroll and look at all the avatars and try and find the pooper scooper. I wager a lot of people did that because of man's curious nature.

I think the answer you got from the concensus is that it is not important.  And if either way is fine then consideration to others should sway you to use usernames.

Oh the horror. Now that's 8 seconds of my life I'll never get back. [sm=rolleyes.gif]

OR, they could have looked in the bottom right corner of her post where it says... (in reply to DPU)

I figured out who David was after two posts xD  No looking at avatars or anything.  Common sense (Which I really don't have much of, so if I can do it, anybody can) *ROFL*

I've noticed that in tree style, it doesn't show who is replying to whom but in flat style, it does.

Maybe we can just call each other doggyperson1,2,3, whatever.[:D]

I have no memory so I have to use usernames. It's also easier for me to see who the post relates to if I see the username in the message.
    • Gold Top Dog
OK - silly question here.  Does the phrase "in reply to" refer to the person you might actually be replying to, or does it just refer to whoever posted immediately before you? See how complicated this can all get? [:D]

I could always change my handle to ron1 on odd days and ron2 on even days.[:D]

"In reply to" is in reference to which post you clicked directly from to REPLY.

If you click the first message in a thread it will be in reply to whoever posted that....some people have a habit of simply tagging on to the last post in line, in which case their reply can be more confusing....but still able to be understood with just a bit of thought.

Handy, is highlighting part of someone's post....then quoting it in the post YOU make...that way it's plain who you are replying to even if the "reply to" isn't accurate.

You can simply CUTNPASTE...or you can get fancy and put [   quote ] at the beginning and [  /   quote  ] at the end (minus the spacing)

    On the original topic...
I use first names when they are handy and when the person doesn't mind...otherwise I use usernames. I try to use the persons name in either case...in my post, so they are aware I am replying to them.

My name is Tiffany, but everyone calls me Tiffy.

Thanks, Gina.  I never realized you could click on "reply" and reply to a specific person instead of tagging on at the end.  I can't cut and paste without a  bottle of glue and a scissors.[:)] I guess you CAN teach an old dog a new trick.

This is my final post in this thread.  On the forum I am DPU.  It is my first initial of my first name and the first 2 letters of my last name.  It is easy to type and if anyone includes this username in their writings, it is readily seen.  This is my preference.  Outside the forum I am called by a few variations of my first name and by different people.  My family calls me Davey.  My friends and co-workers call me David.  And people that casually know me call me Dave.  If you want my attention call me DPU.  If you extend kind words to me, call me David.  And if ever I get assimilated in the pack, then call me Davey.

    Howdy, Davey.
