What should we call each other?

but I am curious to know how many others have read the book.

I've read it. So Xerxes is a former whale hunter, eh?

For those of you who don't know, Rebecca is actually an expert in this field.

I am the absolute worst at remembering names, so I don't care if you call me Tina, Sharismom, Shari, or slightly dingy!  When I am posting, I go with the name I see for the person if I am replying to someone specific because even if I look in someone's profile, by the time I click back to post, I may not remember it.  Pretty bad, huh?  I'm good with faces, though.

Some of the members are easier to remember, like Glenda, not a common name; Gina (rwbeagles) rhymes with Tina; and Billy is easy for me to recall because his posts are, umm...unusual [8|]

You all can call me by my username, dogslyfe, or by my real name, Laura - it's in my siggy. Then again, since my dogs all pretty much have human names, I can see where that would be confusing. [:D]
    • Gold Top Dog
I have my name in my siggy as well, but people can to refer to me as Ivette, Dasher or Dasher's mom.  I'm not too particular! [:D]

I like reading this thread.  The name sticks in my head more if I see a real name.  Thus I tried to add mine to my sig line.  We'll see.   Since I'm a drive by poster, four about four years, not a lot of people know me.

You can call me Annie.  My login is kinda long to type out.

That's what my friends call me. [:D]

Dogs know me as "the liver lady".  [sm=rofl.gif]

Or, I am (depending on which dog the person knows):
    Sioux's mom
    Sequoyah's mom
    Maska's mom
    Fergie's mom
And, if it's a horse person, they know me as Miles-ey's mom.

Most people here just call me Anne or spiritdogs, and I have no preference. [:)]

Again but with more emphasis, I repeat that I think it is inconsiderate to others when the username is not used.  The thread then appears to be a tight social group and to exclusion of others.  I like to see post that express an opinion addressed to the audience first.  I like to see post that makes comments on other posts to reference the post by quote but still address the comment to the audience.  I think it is the height of inconsideration for threads that ask for help from a specific member and includes the members private name in the title of the thread, those types should use the PM function.

Dave - DPU - although I can see your point, I think in a group such as this where you have people who have been around for a long time, I don't think you will get away from folks using "real" names for some members....  Glenda, Anne, Callie, Joyce... people who either sign their posts with their name or something.

When I first joined it was complicated for me as well, so perhaps members could be considerate of newer folks and use the quote feature and keep the username in there, but once you become "friends" with people it's more friendly to use your name.  Especially since a majority of people have their names in their signatures.  And sometimes you want to reply to several people's posts in one of your own so you use names - I've done it before.

And to anyone who wants to refer to me, you can call me Nicole - the S is only my last initial since several variations of Nicole were taken.  I keep it fairly easy!  Or Sammy's mom for people who relate to the dogs better :)

CC is my initials and 431 was whats known a 'gamma number'.  A gamma number (gamma-Greek alphabet) was a number assigned to me some 24 years ago when I was the 431st person to join the fraternity.  Anyhoo....you can call me CC, you can call me Charlie if you like.

Susan from the Philly area....I'm originally from the Norristown area....GO EAGLES !!!!

    CC.

The above is an example of me having to go and look who the Poster is referring to and to read that particular post's entire content.

Are you confused because the post was off the topic of the thread?  Here they only refer to people's usernames, so it's not from calling folks by their names.  Or is it just that folks don't use the quote feature properly?  The quote thing is rather difficult to wrap your brain around sometimes, and if you just highlight and press reply it doesn't give the OP in there......... so then you have to hit quote and erase everything you don't want.  So I think your gripe might be with how the quote thing is implemented - since if I only want to quote one line I also just highlight and hit reply and it shows up, but without the OP and not many people would bother to go bak and add it.

When snippets are used, I like to go back to original and see its full content.  In the example I gave, a snippet was used but no reference to the Original Poster.  Including the OP's username by either using the "quote" and then deleting or "reply" and then editing to include the username, is a courtesy to others.

Marlania is my id here and my name, so I guess Marlania is appropriate.[8D]

I put my real name, Cressida, in my signature, but I answer to that or my log-in.
