    question about doggie car seats

I've posted this question else on this site but hoping to get more replies by posting it more than once. I'm fixing to place an order for an exercise pen for my toy poodle and i also noticed on Petco, that they have dog car seats. I got a couple of reviews on their website about how good they are. Does anyone else use these when traveling with your dog? does the dog like it?

My dogs travel in sturdy crates, anchored down. Seatbelts and such are not real life crash tested by any agency...and any slack or tether will allow the dog to fly around at the end of it during an impact. It also opens them to airbag deplyment injuries if they are secured in the front passenger seat. If used then consider using them along with your cars LATCH system and securing the dog to both LATCH tabs with a crossways belt, and avoiding a lot of slack which would lend itself to recoil.

If you can find an old Kennel Aire crate, these are the ones to buy.

I use the Lookout brand car booster seat for my two dogs.  I (and they) like them very much.  The seat is held in place using the car's seatbelt and then a safety strap is connected between the seatbelt and the dogs' harnesses to keep them safely strapped in.

They can sit up and see out the window or curl up and sleep.  The seats make good grocery bag holders too.  [:)]

    Minimom,
That's the kind I was looking into. Glad to hear you like it. i'm from a small town and most people here just let their dogs lose in the vehicle or on the back of a truck (YIKES!). But my toy poodle is so small the airbag would surely kill her if it deployed not to mention breaking her neck or something if we had a wreck and she was slung around. I LOVE her being in my lap. Makes ME feel good. LOL! but for safety i think she needs a car seat.

Anybody else have experience with the Lookout car seat as Minimom has pictured?
