Disappointed with Orka Jack

    Disappointed with Orka Jack

I must say that I'm quite disappointed with the Orka Jack.  I bought two, one for Rose and one for Colton.  Colton shreds stuffed toys occassionally but has never demolished something like this so easily.  Within ten minutes, one of the spikes is broken off.  It takes him longer to eat his dinner!  In fact, it takes him much, much longer to completely destory a stuffed toy.  A bully stick lasts much longer too.  I thought it would last a while since a few people on this site recommended them.

Ok so I gotta know what an orca jack is???  Sorry ...it is probably a REALLY stupid question![;)]

Its kind of similar to a Kong.  It has holes in it to stuff with treats.  I wrote an email to the company.  Something like this could cause choking or impactions if the owner was not supervising very closely like I was.  I used to recommend them to students in my classes, but no longer!  The main thing that makes me mad is that it could really cause major problems if swallowed because big peices can break off.

    Oh...I have seen these...I just didn't recognize the name![:D]

Gosh, I have actually thought of these for my step kids dog since they seem pretty heavy duty...Good to know that this is NOT a good option for her!

That's strange, I could have sworn that Houndlove mentioned it's the only thing her dogs can't destroy. If I'm not mistaken.

I guess different materials hold up better to different dogs.

Yep. That's the one toy that both dogs enjoy and they haven't ripped to shreds. The black Kongs are sort of shredding (we'll get new ones for the new year) and the red kong is utterly destroyed. Stuffies become stuffie carcasses in no time flat. We've only had one squeaky toy ever that wasn't desqueaked in moments (the Ruff Toys squeaking ball).

Now, I got the large size jacks and the ones without the ropes in them (rope toys also become tiny, annoying little shreds of rope all over the floor in about 5 minutes), so that may be a difference if you have a small dog and got the small size. But I've found the jacks to be very durable. Though my dogs are way more interested in throwing them down the stairs to get the food out than really chewing on them hardcore, so that might also be a difference.

As Scout gets older I'm also finding it harder and harder to find toys that she can play with by herself while I'm doing other things. The rope bone used to be a fave, now it's just a rip-fest. Stuffies are not even worth buying [:D].....

So far she hasn't destroyed her ugly chicken thing made by the Good Cuz/Bad Cuz company. Of course it's the one toy with the most bizarre dying-animal squeak. Joy! [;)]

I'd have to say that that toy looks like it would be a goner in oh...somewhere between 1 and 5 minutes in my house.  But that's ONLY if they play with it.  My two don't really like toys all that much.  Xerxes prefers things like comforters and pillows.  Gaia prefers to lounge.  Playtime for them is going outside and trying to get squirrels, or birds, or other dogs, or anything that can move and is either feathery or fuzzy.

They aren't even interested in Kongs for more than 3 or 4 minutes.  (And that's with yummies inside.)

Bugsy goes through a black kong (second largest size) every couple of months - he eats the top off - I believe its for remnants of peanut butter [:)]
But the toy that has been AMAZING is the large bad cuz.  he ate the ears and legs off in a few minutes but he hasn't popped the thing despite trying and MUCH rough squeaking and play.  I can't figure out how its alive but it is for nearly 6 weeks I think!!!!!  I let him play with it every day for max couple of hours (can't deal with the constant squawking) and he LOVES it!
He has popped several real footballs and rubber ones as if they were a balloon and cracked a Galileo in half, ropes have been banned since he was about 6 or 7 months old - when we had to help [:'(] him 'pass' a rope filled poop. Stuffies are not worth the seconds of joy.  But this thing survives.
The other toy that has lasted OK is the Air Kong large football, its pretty deflated but still squeaking and functional.  I would recommend it for rough tough chewers/players

The Orka Jack did not do well in our house either...
Oliver chewed off a "leg" of it in no time at all... the rubber is not t all tough like the Kong.

Karen- is the large bad cuz tougher than the large octopus? I got my stepkids dog the octopus last night for her stocking and it seemed like it might hold up well for her even though she is a tough chewer.  Have you tried any of the other animal shapes by that same company?  JJ LOVES the chicken one (he isn't much of a chewer though so he just puts it in his mouth and makes it squeak over and over and over agin...but at least this one has a softer "squeak") [;)]

I haven't seen the 'animals' from cuz in person so can't comment.  our bad cuz seems to be made out of the same type rubber as the red kong and its not huge - bigger than a tennis ball but not as big as a softball.  he easily can put it in his mouth and squawk away but it doesn't pop - he easily chomps red kongs into pieces so I really can't understand it.
I am almost as happy as Bugsy with it because he hasn't ever really had a favorite toy because none last more than minutes,  we have tried so many that people recommended that I was at the end of my rope.  Now I'll say go get squeaky and he will come running back swinging his head and squawking VERY cute!

He's getting a good cuz for Christmas!!!!!!!!!

WHY?...CUZ HE IS SUCH A GOOD BOY??? [sm=rofl.gif]

I am glad to hear that he likes it...my poor step kids dog doesn't have any toys except a kong and she doesn't like to play with it, just eat what is inside!  She demolishes everything...

She got into my stepdaughters room one day and she only has 1 stuffed animal that her brother gave her for HS graduation, and their dog got to it and ruined it in less than a minute...poor panda bear...[&o]

I could see how for a very strong chewer, the jack wouldn't last too long.  But, Colton isn't a strong chewer.  He has had the same Kong for a very long time and a small bully stick lasts a few days.  Right now, he has a stuffy that has been around for a very long time as well.  If anyone buys one, just make sure to watch very closely because big peices break off and can cause problems.  That's the main point of the post.
