    It's raining dogs - literally

This happened last summer and for some reason I'm telling you about it 6 months later.

I was at my friend's house, and my mom was packing boxes as we were getting ready to move (down the street).  The window was open, and there must have been a dog or rabbit across the street.  Keep in mind that there was a screen on the window at the time.  Well, my mom left the room and Riley jumped up onto the windowsill to bark at whatever was outside.  Then the screen gave way, and he fell out!  This was a 2-story window (my sister's old bedroom).  He got up, grabbed his leash that happened to be attached to him, and walked around to the back door.  My mom heard the noises, and went down to the back door.  He was standing there, with his leash in his mouth, wagging his tail, happy-growling and everything!  I came home right after the incident, and my brother and mom told me what happened.  He seemed perfectly fine, and he still is!

This shouldn't be considered animal cruelty because it was an accident.  Besides, one of my *friends?* still goes around and tells everyone that I pushed my dog out a window - I wasn't even home at the time!

That wasn't his first weird accident, either.  Back when my aunt owned him, he once got away and was hit by a car - perfectly fine.  Once my sister's friends ran him over with her bike - still perfectly fine.

Halloween of 2005, we were at our friend's house, which is a fisherman's cabin on top and storage underneath. Shadow was in his collar and tie-out chain to stay on the porch. We walked by the porch on our scavenger clue hunt and Shadow wanted to join in. He went between the slats and jumped down, hanging himself. Fortunately, I was 2 steps away. I immediately raised up his front and held his arms up on mine while DW grabbed the leash and harness and I unhooked the tie out chain. I put him in harness to keep control but give his neck a rest. He was fine after a few minutes but I think I grew a gray hair over that incident. Since then, I'm more cautious in making sure when I have to step out to the vehicle for something, that he doesn't have the need to go with me. Otherwise, I'm right by his side.

Oh geez.  I would have been so scared!  When my mom was younger, she used to work at the mall.  She was taking out the trash (or something like that, it was outside though), and she saw this large yellow dog in the back of a parked pickup truck, hanging itself.  She got some other people that worked at the mall to help the dog up.  When they came back, he was doing it again!  They left a note on the truck for the owner to find.
