You have GOT TO be kidding me! I cant not fathom the cruelty inflicted upon these poor dogs. It makes me even madder that people want to ban pit bulls.....after what they have gone through at the hands of man! And to top it all off they'll only get animal cruelty charges. My faith in mankind is wavering, I am completley disgusted!

I agree they take out the dogs and the people did it. I to have a APBT that I rescue and I will move before he goes, and I really hope that lawmakers start punishing the people, rather then the dogs real soon.

I am just so infuriated by this. I am 24 and my blood pressure is through the roof!! Who the he-l-l do these people think they are, what nerve. Especially with all the buzz going on about this nonsense. Hell what ever happened to men drinkin beer, going to strip clubs and gambling.....ya know the good ole days......ha ha I'm kidding but COME ON!!!!!

What's sad about this is that there will always be the two guys that say "my dog can kick your dogs' butt."  And there's not a thing we can do about it.

The animal cruelty statutes are not punitive enough.  Most of these people will be fined a thousand dollars or so and will continue doing what they've always done; ruin the reputation of the dogs that they use.

This is disgusting, disheartening, saddening and unjust.  My heart breaks for those dogs, and for all the dogs that will suffer because of these kinds of peoples' stupidity and greed.

That is terrible.  We had something like that happen about 10 miles away from my house back in August.  The man & wife were "breeding" pit bulls.  They had about 300 dogs on chains, staked every five foot.  They had a ring in the center of their property.  Unfortunatley (dripping with sarcasm) the male owner was shot an killed over a dog fight dispute.  The authorities were called in to confiscate the dogs (who were aggressive, did you have any doubt).  The horrible thing was that the dogs only wanted to do what they were taught and the judge handling the case, with the advice of the Houston SPCA, ordered all dogs over 6 months to be euthanized.  I was horrified that this happened, almost in my own backyard.  I just don't understand how people can do this.

[:(] Oh reading that made me cry.  I cant believe it.  Not that I didnt know it was happening in the back of my head but its just so hard to see it in front of my eyes.

DH and I went to eat sushi tonight, on the way home the radio show was about banning certain breeds (brought on by some recent deal with a pitt or dobe, not sure, chewing a babies toes off while the parents slept right next to the baby - which was strapped in a car seat........?????)  and was taking calls.  I was horrified at what I was about to hear but was pleasantly surprised at the amount of people who called and said its the OWNERS.  And how many people defended the breeds in question and just bashed the stupid owners who must have slept through the crying and stuff...?

Anyway, back on topic, I truly believe these people will get theirs one day, truly.

That area isn't too far, as the crow flies, from Putnam Co., where they euth dogs three days a week at the local shelter.  Probably the discards from jerks like this.  There are days I really hate human beings.

unfortunately, this happened just beyond Apopka, near Zellwood, FL right near me.  They didn't even catch the idiot humans.  It's one of those unfortunate areas where years ago they imported migrant workers, convinced them to 'stay' to work in local fern farms and orchards and now THOSE are pretty well out of business, the work is seasonal at best and so many are out of work with no skills, no local language and no real 'help' it's sad and disgusting.  I used to work at an orchid grower up there - nice people who are far too poor, far too bored and far too 'cut off' because they don't even speak local Spanish usually.

Add to that the rest of the locals up there are your basic ignorants who think a shotgun in the back window of your truck elevates you to godhood.

All just too far from the 'city' (Orlando) for it to provide work or help, but unfortunately close enough for guys looking for "hot action" to come and lay down their money.  It is sickening.

When you put people in a situation where some have no money and some have too much and most have too little productive to do, it breeds all sorts of problems, and this is one horrific part of it.

It's all just so sad -- they 'broke up' the fight, but they caught no one.  Just confiscated the dogs, so nothing at all resolved and these guys will be back in business in a heartbeat.  Not a county where there is low-cost spay/neuter either.

I really hope that lawmakers start punishing the people, rather then the dogs real soon.

I appreciate your optimism. The usual reality, though, is that the lawmakers are often cowards who are afraid of the gangster that fight dogs and rather than truly make it a war on organized crime, they would rather pick on the dog, which cannot defend itself and has limited legal rights as a species and, in some cities, none as a breed. When I say war on crime, I mean call in the National Guard or even a sniper in a special forces team and declare actual war on the criminals. Shoot to kill. That is how one wins a war. I know that's reactionary and it won't ever happen. But you cannot win a war on organized crime and drugs and fighting by getting rid of a breed of dog. Getting rid of pit bulls will not get rid of drugs, organized crime, or animal fighting, in general. You get rid of organized crime by getting rid of organized criminals. That's something so simple that even I can understand it.

But lawmakers won't do it because it's easier to pick on law-abiding citizens and their lawful dogs.
