    No more illusions ...

about Max EVER making the grade as a watchdog.  I came home a little while ago, opened the front door and was nearly mowed over by the Terminix guy coming out. DS #2 let him in and and before he left, he very nicely and quickly cleaned the empty Christmas decoration boxes out of the hall closet so the guy could get to the little trap door leading to the space underneath the house.  I had no idea that anyone was showing up today to do the yearly termite inspection. Was Max barking?  Or growling? No.  Max was chasing the light from the guys flashlight and licking his ear whenever he got down on his hands and knees in the closet. This was a total, complete stranger. I can only hope that nobody dangerous ever shows up on the front porch.

That's totally what Rupert would do. He thinks that anyone that comes over is there to play with him. [8|]

If anybody ever wants to rob our house, all they have to do is eat pizza before coming over and they're in like Flynn!

Oh well...I guess that means no lawsuits?

Okay so Max isn't a watch dog but he's one heck of a supervisor. ~L~

Heehee, for sure! 'Tis funny because my Max is a big sap too and wouldn't dream of barking at anybody when it's so much easier and more fun to lick them ;)

i had 2 dogs like your max
they wagged tails at everyone and loved anyone
i could tell when people were coming over cause they would grab their toys and cry at the door[8|]
but i think if it came to where he had to protect you or bark he would
my experience was walking in the river valley with my friend and her 2 dogs and me and my two dogs, there was a group of kids argueing and the only way to get thru them was to go right in between them all
i was so scared and so was my friend being we had the 4 most loving dogs in the world
i had to say i was so proud when my 2 dogs got all alert and serious looking and all the kids parted to let us thru
i gave them extra treats that night
they didnt bark or act aggressive but they just had that protective vibe and definatly made me feel safe

A few months ago a guy came to work on my dishwasher.  He came in, saw Roxie, and asked cautiously, "Does it bite?"  I quickly wondered whether or not to show him back out the door at such an assumption (come on -- she was wagging her tail and being annoyingly friendly), but she was already getting googly with him and my sink was full of unwashed dishes.  I ended up crating her, because she was too busy pestering him.

I don't know how Roxie would react to a genuine threat.  She's very friendly towards strangers, whether they like it or not.  I'd rather see her tail wagging and her butt wiggling, rather than her teeth bared and growling.
