    Scratching face like crazy

My dog is a cockapoo.  Over the past couple of months he's been scratching his face (around his mouth) more than usual.  And recently he's really been scratching it and rubbing his face on the carpet to relieve the itch.  He is up to date on his flea pills.  I've taken a closer look through his fur to his skin and there are some spots that looks like dry skin.  Is this the reason for the scratching?  What would cause the scratching if its not fleas?  I also to try and wash his mouth/face area with a wet cloth to remove any dirt.  He is going to get a haircut tomorrow and we are going to mention this to them.  I'm hoping cutting around his face/mouth area and getting a good bath will alleviate the problem (ps..we have bathed him during this time as well)
Just wondering if anyone out there had any ideas or hints of what to do.

    Thanks

Sounds like your little one may be developing allergies, dogs tend to grow into them :) Although enviornmental allergies are much more common, it may be food allergies too. I would visit the vet because there are alot of great options to soothe that itch, and maybe even figure out what the culprit is.

I thought of allergies.  I did notice that when the weather changed up here (Hamilton, Canada) to very cold thats when he really started going at it.  I'm gonna see if the groomers see anything in particular and then to the vets if it continues after the grooming.

the winter brings dryness too, a few of the regulars around here know alot about supplements that are helpful for skin itchyness :) I seem to recall fish oil being mentioned multiple times. I'm sure they will chime in soon :)
