home made doggy diapers?

ok, i just noticed. i really sound like a cheap a**..
just wanted to say that it's too late for the pet shop right now. that's why i'm using drastic measures such as duct tape []

I wouldn't spend money on the doggy diapers when there's a cheaper way out.  How big is moca?  My experience has been buying regular diapers like Pampers or Huggies.  Trixie is small, so she's uses stage one diapers.  Look at the weight on the packages - heck some stores might let you open them up just to see how big they are before you buy them. 
 
When you get ready to put the diaper on your girl... flip it around.  You know how the velcro part usually goes on the front of the baby?  Put it on so that the velcro part will be on the backside of Moca.  Also, just below the velcro part of the diaper, cut out a hole for her tail.  It should work like a charm and it's much cheaper than regular doggie diapers []   Hope this helps!!

I've heard of using little boys' underwear and a regular women's maxi pad (lite version) for females in heat - they boys' underwear is nice because if you put them on her backward, her tail can go thru the little space in the front.

On another note - spaying might be a better option in the long run - then you wouldn't have to worry about her heat cycles and the possibility of unwanted pregnancies. I don't know how available that surgery is in your part of the world though.

ok, thanx. good advice! i will try both, the baby diapers ( i really don't know how much they cost over here, but we'll see) and the underwear and just see what works better for me.
 
and yes, stardog. i am planning to get her spayed. it is available and quite a lot cheaper too. i know w good vet that has been recommended to me by several people including westeners. i was going to do it these christmas holidays, so that i have the time to take care of her.
now that she has her period though, i'm not sure if i can do it this time around.. what is the best time of her cycle to get her spayed???

For Dottie, we use a store bought baby diaper and do the same thing as Missy does but I have had to reinforce with Duct tape on the velcro side. 

Probably the easiest thing would be to use our member Bunni's method of a baby to toddler sized "Onsie" outfit...cut a hole for the tail and simply put a maxi pad (they're sticky backed of course) wherever you need to. Then you simply change them out as needed. The onsies can go thru the laundry and be used over and over.

oh yay. that's not only convenient and cheap, but it's gonna look horribly cute too. [] 

Experience talking here (altho more with an incontinent dog) -- make a fold in the ladies pad - just fold down the last inch, put the pad way way up high so it butts up under her tail (if you cut a hole for the tail in whatever, or use little boys underwear (and you can get those at a grocery store usually) -- it keeps the pad in the right 'place'. 
 
THEN ... (oh I'm so serious -- if you live in a house and are used to just 'letting her out') -- go put a sign on your back door HANDLE that says "Take off her Thong" (0r whatever you decide to call this contraption) because sure as shootin, you will not think and you'll just let her 'outside' (which you shouldn't do with a female ANYWAY) -- but even taking her out on leash - you will get SO used to seeing her all gussied up that you'll forget she's gotta pee! 
 
We used to forget once in a while to take Ms. Socks' "Jeans" off (she wore bitches britches with human continence pads in them for YEARS) -- and dang, once in a while we'd let her out to 'go' or take her out onleash somewhere and forget and all of a sudden she assumes the position and one of the stupid humans makes a dive for her and it's too late.  She did have some control but man, whatta mess!!  Periodically I used to have to change the sign, but for both David and I it took that "touch" of our hand on the sign to wake us up occasionally.
 
This will only last 3 weeks but that's still long enough to make a habit -- and if it were me I'd need a sign to say "DON'T FORGET -- DON'T LET HER OUT without an escort!!"  (man, I sound really feeble minded don't I?)

oh and -- you'll have to wait about 3 weeks beyond heat before you get her spayed.  The tissues have to return to normal.

haha... that cracked me up. well for now i made an improvement. sewed my underwear smaller and it seems to be working much better. hope she won't mess with it. well, i can't just let her out here. and at least the last time (when she was wearing the diapers) i didnt forget to take them off. we'll see. haha
