Dog scratched expensive leather chair - need help ASAP

Riley just scratched my dad's very expensive leather chair!  Is there anything that I can do/tell my dad when he comes home?  Please help, I'm afraid that my dad will put him to sleep.

well, "im very sorry" would be a good place to start. ask him to punish you not the dog... i dont really know your dad so i cant really tell you the right words. i would hope you would rehome the dog before you would have it pts, after all it is just a chair. good luck, i hope he understands that the dog did not mean to do it.

Riley says " the cat did it"

Ok seriously, hhmmm let me pull out my teenage mentality for a moment.......

-You have no idea how it got there and you were walking Riley so it couldnt have been hin
    - you fell and used the chair as support and you had "object of choice" in hand and it scratched it
    - the rivet on your jeans did it
    - its always been there, didnt he notice before?

Well, my teenage mind says that it might actually work!  But do you think that I'll get in more trouble if I lied to him?

    I LOL'ed at that one.
Hmmm it's hard to say since I don't know your dad. With my dad...hmm he'd be pretty mad, but with him just being extremely apologetic, offering to do something you can, not saying anything if he has to rant to feel better...aaand saying you'll keep Riley out of that room from now on. Something like that, maybe? Sorry I'm not much help.

That might work, too.  My punishment however, would probably be buying a new one/paying for repairs, which will probably cost waaayyyy more than I have!  I think you can buy leather repair kits at places like home depot, I read about it on the internet.

Well you know your dad so its hard to tell. When ever I was forced to fib to my parents I NEVER admitted that I ever lied or there goes my future credibility out the window but obviously your new to this so I wouldnt try lying under perssure unless you know 99% you can fool him.

If he's a hard ass like my dad you may have to pull the "oh woe is me, how am I ever going to repay you" card. A lot of the times if your SO distressed over it and make a big deal you can actually make him feel bad......that takes practice though, its an art, he he!

OOh side note-dont use the "woe is me" technique if your mom is gonna be there, she'll see right through it. For mom's you use the "if I dont make a big deal out of it hopefully she wont either" trick

Our leather couch has a warranty on it... does his chair maybe?  The warranty includes animal damage and ANYTHING else.

As a result, I am sure there is a method to repair leather also... so offer to pay for its repair, even if you pay by doing things around the house.  There is a cheap leather fix they sell "as seen on tv" but I don't know how well it works.  Call a furniture store and ask them for a repair idea.

I'd say however you present it, also present a solution so it will not happen again.  For example, Zoe is not allowed on our couches unless she is on a blanket or pillow on it, or on a lap.
