Heres Sammy.Hes about 150lbs and possibly the most obese dog i have even seen! But what a total sweetheart! He is in good health even his hips seem ok despite his weight problem.

he is adorable, i love that doggy face! i cannot believe he weighs 150 lbs. what were they feeding him?
    • Gold Top Dog
Cant believe i forgot to mention that part! All he could eat of Old Roy meaty chunks and gravy!!![:'(] He has enormous orange poop. His excercise was whatever he could get on his 5 foot chain.
DH came home from work and said "honey i think theres a bear in the yard"![:D]

Oh my God!!!!!!!!!!! he's gorgeous!!!  Bless his little heart, he's got a good home now!!!! You are wonderful!!!

This pic shows his "barrel like" appearance!

I wonder if he is a landseer(sp?) newf or a st bernard/ newf mix with those speckles on his mask? I can't remember if the landseer newfs have speckles on the white areas or not. His face reminds me of Marley if she was black instead of brown. He does look pretty chunky, how tall is he at the shoulder?

Bless you for taking him and good luck!

Not sure about his height,i will check tomorrow. He is upstairs in bed with my daughter [:D] If i had to guess i would say around maybe 28 ? He isnt overly tall but he sure is built like a tank! a tank that thinks its a lapdog! He is so fat i cannot confirm that this dog actually has a ribcage in there.
Thats why i am glad his joints seem good.We will be walking alot.Maybe my butt will look smaller next to his.

Marley (saint/pyr) is similar in height. She is 27 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs 137 lbs. I can easily feel her ribs, and she eats approx 2-3 cups high quality kibble plus eith raw or homecooked each day. Her fluffy fur and big saintly forelegs make her look much larger then she is. I think that newfs breed standard is smaller then saint breed standard. You will have to post pics after you have had Sam a few weeks so we can see the changes a new healthy diet and exercise make!

He looks like a sweetheart! I hate to hear he was treated like that, the poor thing. Thank goodness for your big heart--now maybe he can have the life that he deserves!
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah!  You got him!  [sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif] He looks like such a sweetheart.  I wonder if he has some Berner or Saint in him?  Or maybe those are traditional Landseer markings?  Although I though Landseer was the opposite - Black head and white speckled body.   Anyway, Cally will know for sure.  He is gorgeous whatever he is.  Thank goodness there are people out there like you, you are a doggie hero of the greatest proportion.

Whatever he is (besides sweet!) it is that same thing that Eddie is mixed with. His mother is a yellow lab/husky but Eddie has the same markings on his face as well as several other similarities.Heres a pic,hes 10 months old,80lbs and growing You cant see the spots on his nose too well but they are there!

oh my goodness, you weren't kidding.  He looks very much like Eddie!   How is Sammy adjusting?  Is he making himself at home?  fitting in with your 700 other dogs? [;)]
    • Gold Top Dog
He fit right in,its like hes always been here! He is in love with DH! He wont leave him alone!! There are only 13 dogs! He gets along with everyone,he seems to have a very laid back attitude.
