Yeah, I heard about those.  I read about it in a newspaper.  It didn't say what the mix was exactly, but it said that there wasn't any St. Bernard in it!  It disgusts me![:'(][sm=soap%20box.gif]

I will be emailing MC. I am disgusted that they would even consider printing something like that.

Here is another example of a puppymill that produces "mini Saints". The lady who runs it lives on the other side of my state and I have posted this before. Many of the the designer dogs that people think are so wonderful come from places like these. It is beyond sad.

[size=3]I would like to add that last December Vogue did a photo shoot that included Saint Bernards. I was SO excited when I recieved that issue, and emailed Vogue right away. I thanked them for the beautiful pictures of the saints, and and spoke of my own experience owning saints. The point of my email was you can still be a woman of style even if you own a giant dog. You don't need a designer breed that lives inside a purse to be a fashion accessory. Vogue printed my letter in their April issue. I was so proud that I had spoke up, and will always save my copy of that issue. I also recieved several letters from other Vogue readers who own saints. It was a really neat experience.

This is what I'm going to say in my e-mail:

How could you do this?  There is no such thing as a "Mini St. Bernard."  I read about them in a newspaper, and there is in fact no St. Bernard blood in them.  They are also unhealthy.  That [linkhttp://www.puppyhaven.biz/]www.puppyhaven.biz[/link] is simply a puppy mill.  I do not support designer dogs.

     What do you think?

cairnterriers, yours is short and simple, gets the point accross that your not happy with this. I think if many people send in their comments on differnt parts of what they don't like then the message is clear.[;)]

"The website per the "mini saint-bernards" is clearly a puppy mill.  Most "designer" dogs are bred in horrible conditions.  The world doesnt need any more "designer" dogs anyhow.  There are lots of wonderful companions of all shapes and sizes at shelters all over the country.  This inhumane act of breeding the bitches multiple times over just for profit is so sad especially when you think of all the homeless dogs we already have in this world.  I was disappointed to see that your magazine advertised this as a good thing.  I hope you will do more research into the industry before you promot it in the future.  Thanks."

That was mine.  I did it earlier right after I read the thread.  I could have done better, lol, but I was annoyed and just wanted to get my point across as well.  Hopefully the sheer numbers of similar issues will inspire them to pay more attention to what really goes on.  Its truly sickening that they call this "hip".[:@]

Lord have mercy. I was reading their warranty and almost died laughing. They only cover for heart murmurs and HD. That's really interesting considering that perhaps with the exception of the CKCS, the breeds they have listed really don't have heart or HD problems. To make a long story short, their warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

sent this this morning. I too, was horrified to see this in Marie-Claire.

Shame on you and your publication for your support of the puppymill "Puppyhaven" and the idea of breeding so called" designer-dogs" (I.e. mixed breeds) for profit. As a supporter and volunteer for a couple of different animal welfare agencies, I have seen first hand the results of pet overpopulation and am absolutely horrified that your editorial staff would promote designer dogs from a puppy mill as "Hip". A good share of those"hip gifts" end up 6-9 months later in already overcrowded shelters.

How about truly getting "with it" and making adoption from a shelter or rescue where there are thousands of mixed breeds (i.e. designer dogs) euthanized daily, "hip"?

Am sorry to say that as much as I have enjoyed your publication in the past, I can't continue to support a publication that potentially promotes even more companion animals ending up in shelters, rescue or needlessly destroyed.

    Sick.  I'll write, too.

It leads you to believe they're based in the Madison area, (608 area code) but the telephone number prefix (920) is farther north, Green Bay through the Fox Valley area.  Unless I missed something, couldn't stand looking at it all.

Sorry it took me this long, I had to work on my paper yesterday.  This is what I wrote:

    Ms. Coles,

I have been a long time fan of Marie Claire, finding up to date in today#%92s fashions and trends.  However, the December issue absolutely disgusted me!  I could not believe my eyes I saw this advertisement on page 29:

     Designer Fido
A big, brandy-toting companion sounds great but won't fit in your condo. "Mini Saint Bernards" to the rescue! The recipe for this hip hybrid is top secret. ($1000,
    [link>http://www.puppyhaven.biz/]www.puppyhaven.biz[/link]).

I was shocked that you would recommend the purchase of a Puppy Mill puppy, from some Back Yard Breeder who cares nothing about the health and welfare of these animals, only lining his pockets.  I hope you realize the damage you may have caused with this advertisement.  Now, these “designer dogs,” which are nothing more than mixed breed “mutts,” will most likely end up surrendered to shelters.

These dogs are born into deplorable conditions; they eat, sleep, and play in filthy pens covered with their own urine and fecal matter.  As such, they are often difficult to house-train and will sometimes consume their own waste.  Not many people will not tolerate a dog that is not house broken and I don#%92t know of anyone who thinks it is cute for a puppy to eat its own waste.  As a result, they surrender the poor animal to a shelter.  Shelters are already overwhelmed; they have too many unwanted animals because irresponsible individuals fail to spay/neuter their pets.

Please consider the damages to innocent lives if we support this type of irresponsible behavior.  There are far too many unwanted animals being euthanized needlessly.  We need to promote adoptions and spay/neuter programs, NOT puppy mills.

Sadly, I have decided to no longer purchase Marie Claire.  I will not support anyone or anything that promotes such irresponsible, immoral behavior.

It may not be too professional, but I believe every bit helps.
