"Mini Saint Bernards" in Marie Claire

I am truly disgusted. When I am able to maintain a polite tone, I will write to Marie Claire.

    Thank you for posting.

Did you see the If I Were A Dog part.  These are just a couple of the things they expect.  I found these particular ones appalling, but not many of them are great.

    16. When I was mature enough, it is natural I would want to breed.

    26. I would want my puppies to go to a home that really wants them badly and would take good care of them. I would want them to be able to afford a dog. If they pay a lot of money for a puppy, they will be willing to also pay a Vet bill when it is necessary.

[color="#000000"]And I agree, The Puppy Haven Warranty is disgusting.  But my, they sure do have a good selection of dogs don't they? If you don't see what your looking for, just ask and I'm sure they could design one for you.[:'(]

Nice responses, guys.  That website is horrible.

To me the 'mini saint bernards' look like wirehaired beagles...

I also find this greatly aggrivating.. but I have a question for anyone who has an answer.
The menu to the left of the site:

    Current Pups4Sale List
    Testimonials
    Puppy Haven Warranty
    If I Were A Dog

I get so upset everytime I look threw that site more, they have an "adoption" part of it where they have retiered breeding dogs listed. Right now they have 3-5 yr old femaile beagles! Isn't that the age where dog should start breeding, not come to a retierment from it, why would they breed dogs so young and how many littler could they have gotten from these pups? [:@] Ok I need to stop looking around, the whole thing makes me so upset and that warrenty... Uh, so it's the buyer fault if the dog is sick or has genitic problems![8|] Ok I'll stop but it's just too upsetting...

Oh my god. This place is beyond horrible.

I just read one of the articles they have posted on their website and found this:

'Now that the warm weather is here, Daisy#%92s owner has been happy to take her for strolls, but come winter, “I#%92ll probably throw her in the backyard,” Ms. Durcan said. “These poo mixes are almost the perfect mix of a cat and a dog,” she went on. “Like a cat, they#%92re self-sufficient, and you don#%92t have to walk them. I have friends who never take them out. Not that I think that#%92s good.”' - New York Observer

The whole article is pretty sad, but the attitude of the owners is particularly disturbing to me.

    I like this:

    Q.    What Types Of Dogs Don't You Raise?

    A.    Show dogs—many of these dog's littermates have defects from inbreeding.

Watch dogs or guard dogs—that might bite the wrong person if nothandled right.
Hunting dogs or working dogs, such as border collies—they require lots of exercise to be happy.

We specialize in beautiful, good-natured, healthy family pets.

So basically, they don't breed for anything that anyone would usually go to a breeder for.  And I suppose they also don't believe in exercising their dogs.

    ETA:

    Q.    Where do you suggest I purchase a type of dog you don't handle?
    Q. Where do you suggest I purchase a show dog?
[linkhttp://www.puppyhaven.biz/new_page_1.htm#Mutt]Q. Where do you suggest I purchase a mutt? [/link]
    Q. Where do you suggest I purchase a guard dog?
    Q. Where do you suggest I purchase a working dog?

Anyone else find that second link highly ironic?

ETA: This site just gets better and better:

Our dogs breed when the female comes in heat provided we think she is old enough and in good health, never under a year old. If she is not in perfect shape she is not bred  as we may lose her. Also her pups would be weak and would not sell.

And they also won't let you go look at their kennels.  Wonder why.  Out of all the milling sites I've seen, this one's angered me the most.

    I sent my email.  [:)]

    What an appalling site. [:'(]

Their Bichon/Lhasa mixes can be up to 16" tall...when are either of those breeds that tall?[&:]

I decided to forgoe the e-mail to puppyhaven.  Instead I put in a phone call to both Crystal 920-369-6069  and Jackie 920-382-7410 to discuss[;)] this with them privately.  I'll let you know how it goes.  I too sent an email to Marie Claire, as I didn't even notice this as I flipped through.  I can't imagine how I missed that.

Amanda - it was in a supplement to MC, a shopping guide... might have only come with subscriptions.

If you're into black comedy, try reading through the testimonials. Many of them are just from people who bought their puppies at pet stores and are trying to track down their geneology. One genius says his two puppies are supposedly brothers but he hopes they're cousins (why?) and then lists their parentage - two totally different sets of parents. [8|] Another genius says she loves her pug/bassett, the only thing she doesn't like is how much she sheds. [sm=banghead002.gif]

I have a subscription & looked at it while reading the thread.  I just can't see how the editors would let something like that through...

I just realized I've been to that site before.  It made me really mad seeing the little picture of the papillons left outside in the run.  And not to mention things like 'Beagle Females Being Exposed To A Pug Male To Make Puggles' under the pictures of their dogs.  The poor dogs don't even have names.  :(

    [linkhttp://www.puppyhavenkennel.com/Kennel%20Pictures.htm]http://www.puppyhavenkennel.com/Kennel%20Pictures.htm[/link]

ETA:  And she can't even spell papillons right.  She mispelled papillons twice on there and in different ways.  Grrr... people annoy me.

Sooo maddening!!! I'll send an email as well.  What a disgusting thing to promote!!!!

I sent a letter to Cosmo not too long ago for the exact same reason.  I'll look for the issue and see if I can find out exactly what it said.  But, save those Marie Claire email's, change the "To:" part and  I'll add the information when I have it for Cosmo!

Good idea, Erin!  The more emails, the merrier!
