• question about eyes Lexi Posted : 3/31/2006 9:29:25 PM Is it normal for the whites of dogs eyes to darken as they get older?  I notice that Romy's whites seem to have a little light brown in them.  Should I worry? • Lexi Posted : 4/1/2006 11:11:20 AM Well, yellow is probably a better description.  It's very light.  It's just been a gradual change, and it's not all of the whites of her eyes.  The vet didn't say anything about it at her last checkup a few months ago.  She sat in the floor with her checking her over for about 30 minutes.    She's not acting any different at all.  Everything is normal.  I guess I was wondering if that can be a side effect from certain foods or if it's simply an age thing. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • Christi Posted : 4/1/2006 11:29:48 AM My husband graduates from optometry school (people eye doctor) in a month.  I like quizzing him when I see eye questions on this board.  He would like to see a picture of your dog, but gave several ideas that could cause yellowing of the white part of a person's eyes.  He figures it could be similar in a dog.  It could be from UV exposure, it could be more serious and a side effect from a liver problem, it could also just be an aging thing.  He also says, "see a vet" or call and ask... he's not supposed to be diagnosing outside of his speciality. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • Lexi Posted : 4/1/2006 1:13:45 PM Well, I called and he said that with age some dogs will get pigment deposited in the whites of the eyes, it's just more prevelent in some breeds than in others.  He also said since her eyes are brown and the pigment that I'm seeing next to her irises is also brown that I shouldn't worry.  If it was a purple or red or looked like bruising then that would be something to be concerned about.    I'm glad I called.  I feel much better. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available.
