Why did I go to the pound?

Why did I go to the pound?

I was driving by the city pound and thought to myself I have some extra time, I should stop and see what#%92s there.

I go in and there is a room with six rows of kennels most all filled with dogs, most even had two to three dogs in each kennel.  I walk around and felt so sorry for all of them that are in there, I had just read in the newspaper that less than 10% get adopted, the rest…well I think that can be left unsaid.

I was surprised about the amount of pitt bulls there, it would seem most of the dogs there were pitts.  The ones with red tags were not adoptable because they had either bit someone or were evaluated as not safe.  I saw a beautiful speckled great dain among the mix and wanted so badly to take him home with my, I#%92m was considering it but I don#%92t know if a dain would fit into my lifestyle, at the very least I was thinking about fostering him.  I ask about adoption fees and it#%92s only $35 to adopt and you get it back when the animal is spayed/neutered.

Still thinking about that I wondered into the cat room.  There was a beautiful blue long haired cat that the staff had been discussing.  It had been there a long time and had been brought back twice, once because the person was allergic.  It was on hold for someone but that person never came to pick it up and this was its last day, the cat was going to be put down in just a few minuets.  Feeling sorry for the cat I held it and pet it thinking how sad that this cat would be put down that day.  I stayed with the cat for some time thinking to myself how on earth I could keep a cat, my boyfriend would never let me bring it into the house.  Then one of the employees said if you want that cat you can have it for free… puzzled and still holding the cat I didn#%92t know what to say.  Then the man directed me to the door and I ended up walking out with the cat.  Did not sign any papers just walked out.  I got in my car and drove off thinking what am I going to do?

I took the cat to my grandma#%92s house and when my grandma saw the cat she just fell in love with it.  She sat with the cat and it stayed purring in her lap.  She said she would keep it.  I went out and bought some cat supplies for my Grandma and now she has a new little friend.  I was so happy, I rescued the cats life and the cat has a new home.  I took some pics with a film camera so once I get those developed I#%92ll post pics.

The universe speaks to us, and when we listen amazing things happen. You listened and a life was saved.

Treat yourself to a candy bar (or whatever little culinary sin you're prone to!)

xebby, call your local Dane rescue right away and tell them about the Dane! they will come get the dog out and foster it. Otherwise it'll end up dead. Rescues spend a lot of time retrieving their breed of choice from high-kill shelters.

Yes mudpuppy, I'm still thinking about fostering the dane, I'll defently look up some rescues.  He still has 2 more days in the pound.

Xebby - please call dane rescue right now! Even though he has two days, two days isn't a lot of time when you're trying to arrange a pull and transport!! Hurry!

I called the pound just now to see if the Dane was still available and turns out he is on hold right now.  There is someone who just recently is interested in adopting him.  They told me I could put my name on a waiting list and if he is not adopted in three days I#%92ll be the next one they contact.  I went ahead and did that.  I#%92m still going to contact a rescue and explain everything.

Hey! You shoulda brought your grandma a pit bull, ha ha!!!  [:D] [:D]
    I'm SO kidding!
I am on a ;pit bull forum and we get kids in there all the time wanting to breed their dogs, aside from all the typical reasons not to the first thing I tell them is to go visit their local spca or shelter and then tell me if they think the world needs more pit bulls!

Anyhow that is a wonderful story, that cat is going to bring so much joy to your grandmother, she'll wonder how she ever dealt without it. Congrats to you and the kitty life you saved!

It's a girl kitty[:)] Because I walked out the door so fast I didn't get an age or any other info other than what I overheard the employees talking about, but my best guess would be that she's around 6 to 8 mo old. Puffy is her new name.[:D]
