new home for 'dog-talk'

Someone recommended a Havanese, a King Charles Spaniel, a Collie, a Boxer, and Labs...I've been doing so much reading, and looking at pix my head aches lol.....I also went to the thread on dogs needing homes and saw the pic of Clifford!  Wow such a sweet baby!! (He's the red mastif/rottie)  what a face! :)  With all my 'homework' I won't be getting a dog until this summer.  I guess there are worse things I could be doing with my time..  Jules

Well I just found a Utah rescue group and I am applying and inquiring about one of their dogs..  wagntrain.org     there is a really big dog named Luna I am going to ask them about.  First step is applying, of course, then I will request to see this big sweetie in person with my kids.  She is not one of the breeds I have been focused on, but I am looking down every avenue so to speak.  My dog is out there, somewhere!  This is not my first dog or even my second but strangely I am nervous...  Jules

The dog you end up with will the the perfect dog for your family, so don't get discouraged if things don't work out with Luna.  I checked out that site- they have lots of cutie pies!  Good luck to you and when you get your new pup, post lots of pictures.

just checked out the site and the description they give of luna sounds like she would make a great pet. too bad there was no picture though. rescues make great pets we have one ourselves.

good luck with the adoption  process!

Well I just filled out and sent off a two page application...WWweeeeee!  If I am approved, I can arrange to look Luna over in person.  These particular rescue dogs are in foster homes, not in one central shelter. If I am rejected, it will show me what I need to do next.  Sure wish there was a pic, but I can wait.      One day at a time [:)]       Jules

Well I found a really interesting dog in the strangest place! I was scanning the dogs at a gsd rescue based out of Logan Utah and there is a dog listed there that isn't a gsd.  He is this giant doggy named Michael.  He is a Lab/Mastif cross and whutacutie...aawwww  so I fired off an e-mail about him to his foster mamma and I d/l the app to fill out if he sounds good.  I am basiclly scanning Utah, Nevada, Idaho and western Wyoming.  You'd think a dog would fall from the sky right into my lap but could take me months.. I'm gettin a rash.
    luvarescue...what did you adopt?

cyclefiend2000 and luvarescue.... the waiting is awful!  I applied at another rescue place  [linkhttp://www.utgsd.org]www.utgsd.org[/link] and look for Michael.  Looks like he might fit.  I think I am going to see him tomorrow.  Excited!  Jules

Thanks, Cindy!  We are all really jazzed, what a gentle giant he is.  He is going to the vet today, he has a shoulder strain so I'd like to get him some pain relief and have him checked over since we brought him home on Saturday.  Other than the shoulder and lots of tartar on his teeth, he is in excellent shape. I am putting him on blue buffalo dog food.  His piles are pretty big.  Can anyone explain how to measure how tall he is?  Aren't measurements from the shoulders? I know that from the ground to the back between his shoulder blades he is 27 inches tall.  Laying down his paws at rest are wider than my hand.  If I spread my fingers wide apart, his jaw is wider than that.  He is really a big fella.  Extremely gentle, and calm.  We def need to get his shoulder healed, he needs obed training right away.  He pulls pretty hard on a leash.   Lordy.... Jules

Congratulations!  Looking forward to lots of pictures of your new guy.  See, you survived the wait!

In answer to your question (a few days late, sorry, I've been so busy!) we adopted a border collie/beagle mix to go with our doxie/beagle mix and mutt/son of mutts.

TYVM!  Just got back from the vet.  They tell me we adopted a 134 pound pony not a dog lol...  seems we adopted some heart worms right along with him.  Treatment begins tomorrow, they are double checking his blood test incase it was false pos.  Otherwise he is absolutely wonderful :))  Vet changed meds from metacam to Rimadyl.  Doggy obedience, here we come!  Not mention a diet.

Oh Jules, slow down!  Long term use of rimadyl isn't good. And if treatment starts for heartworm tommorow, no obedience classes for now.  He's gonna have to be pretty much on crate rest for the duration.
