Retailing holistic foods locally?

So I'm in college, and have limited funds...so on and so forth. But driving back today from the dog food store 30 miles from here (in the next county) made me wonder about starting a local dog food delivery service. I was thinking I could rent a climate controlled storage, and just make deliveries to people's houses at night time. The only question is really how much gross profit could be made on the foods themselves.

Seeing that there's 500,000 people in this county, and the only brands in the whole county that would get a good grade here are Natural Balance, Eagle Pack, and Innova, it seems like a pretty good opportunity. Any thoughts or info on wholesale pricing of the holistic foods (Solid Gold, Innova, Eagle Pack, Canidae, NB, Wysong, etc etc)?

That sounds like a good idea if you can get it all worked out. It would be profitable for you if you could find a place to sell you dog food bags in bulk (isn't it usually cheaper that way?) and then sell them at the regular store price or maybe a little higher. Could you store them in your room/apartment/whatever until you get a bigger storage place?

Here's a little advice from someone who is a holistic pet food distributor. You're not going to make alot of money selling dogfood because #1...you will need to buy from whoever the local distributor is in your area. Already that cuts into any profit you'd make. #2...you would have to apply for and pass a credit check in order to even be considered as a retailer and be able to buy at wholesale #3...the profit margin on retail dogfood is VERY VERY slim... about $5-$7 on a 33-40 lb bag. You'd have to do an awful lot of selling to make any substantial amount of money. I happen to sell other products on the side which is what makes me money.

I suggest that if you want to sell premium quality holistic foods in your area, with NO investment and a decent profit margin of 20% , contact me. I can set you up as an affiliate and you can sell food that gets dropshipped right to your customer's door. All you have to do is go out there and SELL it by word of mouth.

PM me and I can get you started. None of the foods that you mentioned will allow you to buy wholesale w/o a credit account through your local distributor.
