want to see Nonnie's hip Xray?

from yesterday?
I have to send it out today but I scanned it first so, for good or bad I have it on file. [:)] Xrays are just NEAT aren't they...

I have no idea what I'm looking at, lmao...so you could be seeing a pass or a fail here!

I have another xray on CDrom of Susie's hips so I'm thinking of comparing the two today for poops n giggles. Susie came back with a "Fair"...pfft.

Look at those muscles on those legs! Wow, must be beagle[;)]

I'm clearly not an expert but something about thoes x-rays just looks good. When Giz had her hips x-rayed ther was no round joint for the femeral head to fit into, it was just a plate with the feamer resting on the outside. She had very sevear HD. Then the bone was very fuzzy looking which ment she had clear signes of arthritus. I don't see any of that here or even close to Gizzy's x-rays so that why I say it looks good to me.

they look good to me too-- no space, the entire ball in the joint.

OOOh you noticed the BBB eh? Big Booty Beagle? lmao....

The Beagles I've had always have such dense hind end muscling you are 100% right. Nonnie is a very dry bitch with a lot of muscle...almost too much I think, not cuddly ya know lol.

There's some talk that all this dense and tight packed muscle is the reason so many Beagles seem to "hitch" when gaited, for no real reason....

You shoulda seen when I had my Open dog scanned. They couldn't get a good position because his butt was in the way. [;)] What a tank he was. My vet scared me to death because she hadn't taken a good picture and had rotated one leg one way and one the other very slightly - she told me she though he was malformed on one side - though in retrospect to be that bad at four years old after being worked that hard, he should have been showing inflammatory changes too. Anyway, his evaluation came back from Cornell as "Within Normal Limits" with a comment on how solid he looked (plus a comment about the mispositioning).

The moral of the story is, it's worth it to get these films done at a specialist if there's a lot riding on the evaluation. [8|]

My Trim had fantastic hips too, and massive musculature, and she had a hitch in her giddy-up also. She was smooth as silk at the natural BC gaits - the creeping walk and the long-striding canter - but if she trotted for a few steps she looked gimpy. I'd be curious to hear what folks say about that. She's ten now and still sound as a bell.

Gina - random hip x-ray question, but do you happen to have a vet you reccommend in Dallas for hip x-rays? I want to get Mal prelim'd in the spring and am starting my search now. I *love* my vet but she is not good at positioning dogs for hip films. Mal's breeder's vet is west of Ft Worth and I'd really rather not drive out there just for that....

OH YES Pwca....I have one...the Josey Ranch Pet Hospital in Carrollton. GREAT! FABULOUS WONDERFUL! They have a digital xray machine and they send the results in THAT DAY via email...and you get a nifty cd-rom for you to keep [:)

Dr. Esmond is their repro man and he is Faboo!

They ran me about $120...the xrays at their place. Totally recommended!

ETA: They DO NOT knock them out for x rays unless they "have" to....love that. You also can look at what they took on a computer screen within seconds [;)]

That's great!  Her x-ray looks wonderful, and yes I do think she has alot of muscle.[;)]

Sorry about that last post!  I was experimenting with colors...[&:] For some reason it won't let me fix it...

Oh my god!  I just noticed that I am now "Best of Breed!"

Gina-

Thanks! They sound great! (and VERY reasonably priced!)
• Gold Top Dog
I think they will be fine. They look nice and tight to this non-expert.

Verdict is in....apparently it is HARD to get better than a Fair with a Beagle....wah! [:@] [:(]

Fair it is...I shall have to take it, tho I think they are being hard cases, lol.
They post OFA ratings in our breed mag quarterly and for every Good there are like 6 Fairs!!

Now I have something else to add to my list of things to work on in the breed....HIPS! Doing xrays at all is relatively new to Beagles so I guess I shouldn't be totally shocked Good's are so uncommon. *grumble*
I did want to update everyone tho [;)]

Good looking pic. Sockets look perfect to me, as well as perfect alignment.

Congrats.

Anyway you can find out why they marked her hips as fair instead of good? They look "Good" to me compared to the xrays I've looked at of other dogs while I volunteered in various vet clinics.
