raw hide bones great dane

I have a great dane puppy and while doing research before i bought her i remember something saying that great danees should not have these kind of toys/treats. However we also have a3 yr old boxer at home and she loves them so my puppy also chews on them. I haven't noticed anything wrong. Is there something that i should know?? The thing that i read didnt' give a reason why they couldnt' have them just said don't give them rawhide or any treat with animal by-products.
Any info is helpful

rawhide in general isn't very good for dogs of any breed. The pressed rawhides are the safest ones, but you'd probably be better off switching to safer chews-- bully sticks, raw soup bones from the butcher.

I never give any of my dogs including my great dane rawhides. The smaller dogs love bully sticks and they all love raw soup bones. I occasionally give the great dane a pressed rawhide bone when i want to keep him busy for awhile and i don't have the raw soup bones on hand. One time i was over at the in laws and they had a few rawhides laying around, my great dane picked one up chewed it a bit and the swallowed it. About 20 minutes later it was back on the floor with all of his food. I don't know why he throws up when he gets one of the rawhides but it doesn't really matter because i don't get them for him or any of the other dogs.
