I had my first puppy class on Sunday. I was sick, but I went anyway. There was one man there with a huge Labradoodle...He came to just a few inches under my hips. He was a terrible puller. Even this big man had rope burns on his hands from the dog. We set him up with a pinch collar(decided the halter wasn't a good choice for him since he likes to run to the end of the leash). The guys was SOOOO happy! He even wanted to speak to my manager after class and told her how happy he was and that I deserved a raise! At the end of class, he just draped the leash over his neck and walked!
My basic class went pretty well too! No one was supposed to bring dogs to the first one, but they did, so no big deal...we improvised. One girl might have a bit of trouble because she cannot grasp the concept of being stern and keeps babying her dog when he does bad things. Well, I took one dog to show how to teach them to sit...he sat right away! He kept behaving when I wanted him not to! So, I moved on to the crazy, barking, jumping, pulling lab. He would not sit without 10 commands from his owner....I said it one time, and he sat! None of them were doing what I wanted! But, it worked out, because now the students think I have the magic touch!
