2+ Dog Owners -- Honest Reply Please

Do you have a favorite? If your house was on fire, would you rescue one dog before another if you only had time for one?

Very curious as I only have one dog and never have had multiple dogs.

Aaaaaccck!  What is this, Sophie's Choice?  I do, somewhat, have a favorite, but it's only a slight edge.  And there's the cats, too.  I'd be the topic of an unfortunate headline, woman loses life trying to save pets.

I don't know really.  Fire is, after all, quite terrifying.

I honestly don't know who I would get first--really I don't.  That would be like asking someone which of their kids they'd get first.

I wouldn't say I have a favorite, but I have different relationships with both of them.

As to who I would rescue FIRST in a fire, if I could possibly get both---Sally.  She is timid and if not crated would not allow a firefighter to catch her to save her.  jack would come right up to anyone.

I've never owned more than one dog, either, but I thought that I loved my dog and cat the same, until recently, someone pulled the firealarm in the building, it wasn't real but the fire trucks came and everyone evacuated, so basically I thought there might be a fire and I grabbed Tojo but not the cat. Mostly because I had to grab the baby (obviously) and couldn't really hold onto more than the baby and Tojo on the leash and also because I didn't know where she was. That being said, if I had actually really thought there was a fire (as in, wasn't just evacuating because everyone else was when I didn't really think there was a fire) I'd risk my life saving my pets.

This would be me too lmfao...

I have to admit, I do have a slight favorite, and it's Eevee, because I've had her for six years, and I believe she is my heart dog. Shippo is, unfortunately, still the new guy.

But that doesn't mean I'd choose one or the other in a disaster... I'd either save both, or die trying.

Different dogs will bond differently to different people -- that's normal.  I'm always 'closer' to one more than another.  I probably wouldn't have to 'save' Billy because he'd be under my feet anyway.

Luna is Daddy's little girl -- sooooooooooooooooo definitely more bonded to him than me.  Billy is most definitely a Mommy suck!!  Kee is fond of both David and I which actually strikes me as odd.  I probably see more depth in her than David does but it's interesting ... he's never had nor liked a smaller dog before (she's a peke) but she won him over really fast.

If there was a disaster of some kind, I'd rescue all of them as quick as I could and it'd be whoever I happened to find first. I don't think I could live with myself if I thought "well, I love Tango more, so Morgan will have to wait"...or something along those lines. But yes, I do have a favourite. Tango is my favourite, and she and I have a much stronger relationship than I've had with any other dog before. That, and technically she's the only one who belongs to me in the house. The others are just the family dogs. I love them all, but not anywhere near as much as I do Tango. However, once I get a second dog of my own in a couple years, I'll probably feel almost the same about her as I do Tango.

I guess yeah, among my dogs I do have a favorite, as much as I hate to admit it. If somehow my house was on fire...I honestly don't know what I'd do. I've got 22 rats, 3 mice, a ferret, the 3 dogs, a cat, a cockatiel, and 17 chickens (who have a room in the basement converted into a coop, so they're techinically inside.) So...if it came down to it, I'd probably just start randomly grabbing animals and get out who I could. I have a plan in case some kind of emergency happens, but I know that in reality, I probably wouldn't have time to get all of the animals out. I have to say that I'd probably go for the dogs first, then the rats. Then again, I really have no idea what I would *actually* end up doing in that situation. I'd probably end up dying myself trying to save everyone.

Sometimes I almost think that I have favorites, but then I think about the others and nope, no real favorites.  Four of my six go by choice to their crates at nite so if we had a fire, I'd be shoving crates out the door as fast as I could shove. And my crates are deliberately placed as close to the nice wide patio door as they can be.  The two who do NOT go to crates are always where ever I am anyway.  I don't have a burgler alarm, aside from six german shepherds, but I do have a fire alarm that goes into the alarm company and they notify the fire department...and that's for when I'm away and EVERYONE is crated.  And I have the Please Save my Pets stickers all over.....and the fire department knows EXACTLY where they are in my house and the fact that they are crated for everyones safety.

I love all my animals equally but I know I am more closely bonded to Dasher than Lille.  Lille is my SO's dog, he had her before we met. (Although, we met when Lille was 2, she is now 12, so its like I have known her her whole life).  Also, Dasher and I do agility together so that forms quite the bond.  Lille has a bad knee so she was never able to do agility with me.  We also have 2 cats who I love to death.

In the event of a fire I know I would be burned up trying to get everyone out.  I could never leave one behind.  Everyone has a crate/carrier.  Most likely my SO would put the dogs in the car without their crates or just grab their leashes and get outside while I stuffed the kitties in their carriers lickity split. [:D] Both cats are very good about coming to me, so they would not be hard to gather up.  Worst case senerio I would open the door and shoo everyone out.  We live in a small town, quiet street so no worries about anyone getting hit if they were loose outside for a couple of minutes.  (I would then stick everyone in the car) [:)]

Some really great reasons to crate...
Mine also are crated when we arent home, I've never thought of talking with the fire dept. to discuss location of my pets, great idea.

As for which dog I would save first, honestly I can say I dont know. I dont have a favorite, they are both so different and are special to me.
Plus I have my cat callie, she would be the death od me trying to find her LOL.

I'd be the unfortunate statistic, too...  But, since my dogs all have good recall, I would probably call, and just get the first dog that appeared out first and go back for the next.  Once the dogs were all out, then I could take the time to call the Fire Dept. [sm=lame.gif]  Property would never come before them.

I know it is horrible, but I do have a favorite and it is my Lily.  First, I have had her for about 4 years and she has been a constant in my life for all those years. She has to be in the same room with me, and if I am sleeping, she is right there on top of my bed. Charlie is more aloof and isn't very loveable.  When it came down to it, I know that both of the dogs would come with us if there was a fire, if we were in the house.  I also believe that both would listen to a stranger if they needed them to get out.  I guess we don't have that large of a house that Lily and Charlie would be seperated from me, so that i couldn't get them both.  Interesting thread!

I would grab the bunny out of his cage, and then run screaming as loud as I could about the "Yum-Yum "I have, that would pretty much take care of the situation, dogs would be on my heels.[:D]
