What did you do with your dog on Halloween?

    Just curious...

I was by myself tonight so my first few attempts at holding Scout at bay while handing out candy were difficult. The kids liked Scout, so that was nice, but then I got thinking - not every kid/parents likes dogs and she is fairly tall. I don't think it's fair to lock in her in a bedroom either. So I moved the candy bowl onto a table on the front porch for self-serving, and opened the wooden front door so Scout could look out and see the kids come and go. She loved it! She sat there at the screen door and wagged her tail, watching the kids and looking at me for treats. It was the easiest and most successful of the various things I tried.

Went trick or treating at Grandmas and around town with our dogs and human gobblins.

The first couple of times the doorbell rang, I was wishing for a third arm - one to open the door, one to hold the candy and one to hold Max by the collar. [:D] Then I got the brilliant idea of letting him drag his leash, and whenever the doorbell rang I put the loop over the door knob of the closet turned pantry. The 6 ft. length gave him enough to go to the door and poke his nose outside to see who was there, but not enough to step out on the porch.

From 6-7:30ish I took Jake out along with the neighbor and a gaggle of kids.  Jake was fascinated by the whole thing.  Doors!  Kids!  Food!  People!

From 7:30-8:30 or so he stayed home and did door duty with his daddy.  Reportedly he did really well.

I had to babysit tonight so I locked charlie-girl in the garage (I've turned the garage into a doggie space when I want to give her room to move around when I'm gone, shes a husky/bc mix and hates being locked in a cage and hates being indoors even more) with treats, chew bones, and dinner. And Sport I actually left loose in the house for the first time, with plenty of chew bones and his dinner. I made sure all the lights were off, locked the door and came back four hours later to perfectly happy dogs and an intact home. I would say it was a very successfull halloween!!

Roxie had to be crated, because the constant kiddo platoon was very exciting.  I'm so glad Halloween is over.  [>:]

I was handing out the candy (some kids kept coming back for doubles... sheesh...) and noticed my dog hanging around the front door watching all the kids. I guess it was pretty exciting for her. I put an orange bandanna on her, gave her a pumpkin bag to match and told my housekeeper to take her around. She came back with the bag full of candy (apparently, she was the only dog in my neighborhood who went trick-or-treating), and I was told that a couple of my neighbors took her shots because they found her so cute! (lol -- What will they think next year when I put her in a Superdog cape?)

We just sit on the front porch handing out candy, and leave the dogs in the house.  But of course, it's fairly warm here.

Ah, the joys of living way out in the boonies!  No trick or treaters for us, but I did have apples in case any came by.

it was Bugsy's first Halloween and he was VERY EXCITED - he is not a dog you will hold with 1 hand so it was a dual effort for us - I was getting pretty irritable after the first hour or so - even after the kids stopped coming Bugs was hanging at the front door waiting for4 more action - his adrenaline stores must be low this morning [8D]

We watched TV.  My BF and I created a temporary table out of a big dog crate, placed it at the top of the driveway, covered it with a tablecloth, placed a halloween candle on it, and set out four big trays of candy, for goblins to take on the "honor system".  No doorbells, no barking, no crating the four dogs with marrow bones, just a comfy cozy night with everyone in the same room in their snuggies.

Ah, the Siberians love children!  They were quiet and wagging tails,  some children came inside and the dogs did not jump on them, or even try to steal candy.  They just loved the kids.  Surprisingly they were not afraid of any costumes and recognized family friends.    My last husky used to be afraid of some of the costumes.  He would say, "Whoo wwooo wooo!"  Miss the guy.

I second the wishing for a thrid arm. Hubby was at class until around 7:00, so I spent the majority of the candy duty by myself. The boys just love everyone and think everyone they see should pay them attention, so it was definitely a challenge trying to get out the door to greet the tricker-treaters without them!! We had a good time though - they certainly enjoyed all the company! [:D]
