Cats on the counter

    Cats on the counter

I know this is NDR and should be in Kitty Central, but it will get more traffic here. How many people let  their cats on the kitchen counter, table, etc... Peaches is allowed up as long as I'm not cooking or someones eating at the table, but if someone is reading the paper, she plops down on the paper and goes to sleep.

no cats are allowed on the counter or table at all in our house.

Yep, I hate to admit it, but 2 out of the 3 feel its their right to sit on the counter and the table. Whenever someone comes over though I always feign surprise and act like its the first time ever, though I suspect my friends are on to me. Once some friends stopped by and one of the divine creatures came running from another room and cleared the entire counter in his haste to get a prime viewing of the company.

LET? lol...we don't let them...and we chase them off when they do it. But they still try it and I am sure they're up there when we're asleep...yet to see something that's not inconvenient to the human...that works to keep a curious and determined cat off  a counter or table!

No cats on the counters or table in our house. I always tell our cat that she can be anywhere we go and we don't sit on the counters or table, so she can't either. [:D]

yep it took us a couple of years of consistency to keep the cats off the counters. occassionally our grey tabby will still get on the table, and i know that occassionally they get on the counter when we are either asleep or out of the house. i know because things will be "moved" when we come back.

Lol title of this thread reminded me of the Cat's in the Cradle song...

"Well the cat's on the counter licking silver spoons..."
"Little tabby jumping down, humans be home soon..."

"When they comin home, cat?...I don't know when..but I'll be on the floor by theeeennn"...
"Ya know they'll think I'm good right thennnn"

Mine are not allowed on either.  One still tries it, but not unless he's feeling lucky.

My little Missy doesn't get on the counter any longer since the time I was preparing a whole chicken and I found her with her head shoved into the cavity when I turned my back just for a minute.  I chased her off the counter and into the living room with the "Big Fork", only missed nailing her by a few inches.

Moose the boy cat will jump up sometimes, but immediately gets squirted w/ water, so he pretty much doesn't do it if I say "Moose, DOWN".

I find that they don't scavenge/counter surf if the dirty dishes are in the dishwasher and no edibles are  left on the counter.

I guess we are pretty lucky, we have 3 cats and not one of them has ever jumped up on the counters in my kitchen, now the table in the dining room that is another story. lol  but we never use it so I don't mind there.

Our cat isn't really allowed on the counters because I'm afraid that one time she might go near the stove since it's in the counter-path.

But the only safe-haven I've found for her food away from our dogs is on the kitchen table, so she's allowed up there.  She's never really tried to get up if we are sitting around it eating, but she'll get up there and bask in the sun if it's not otherwise being occupied.

my cats eat on the counter so Molly can't get into their food.
I don't worry about it - I keep my countertops spotless and am frequently cleaning them.
I figure they can sit/lay on my furniture them eating on the counter isn't much different.
If I'm cooking and a burner is still hot I put a pan of water on it.
I do not allow them up there when I'm cooking though...that is a no-no and they know it. They don't even try.
I do go through a lot of Clorox wipes though

Our cat is not allowed on the table or counters. She still tries...in fact, every now and then we think she does it out of spite. We'll walk into the room and catch her sprawled across our table with a rather indignant look on her face. We had to resort to my plant-misting water bottle to teach her to get off of things she wasn't supposed to get on - she just wouldn't listen (which is typical of cats, I suppose). It only took a few squirts, and now all we have to do is whip it out and she's long gone!! [:D]

Ours are not allowed on the tables/counters, but the littler of the two still occasionally gets up there any way.  He gets squrited or yelled at and he always jumps down.

one of our cats was immuned to the water bottle, so it was extra hard to get her to stay off the counter.

Yeah, we tried the whole water bottle thing. We used to call it the ENFORCER, until we got the Evil Mr. K.; EMK, thought it was some kind of wierd cat water tag, he'd hide and jump out at us. We also tried the tin foil on the counters, EMK would just lay on the top of the tin foil. Finally I just said UNCLE.
