Dogs & Ghosts

The land my grandparents live on was once a battle field were many of people got hurt and needed medical treatment, lots of history about the place they live. My Grandpa for a long time in his life would spend hours a day out in the garden and with his pigs, sheep and other farm animals. He said that there is a nurse who would help him care for his animals and that is why his animals were always so healthy. He keepted this a secret untill my uncle built a house on part of the land and his wife said that she had a run in with a nurse and described it the same way my grandpa remembered her. The nurse has been there to help and has protected my family's land for many years. It makes them feel safe to have her there.
    ------

My story is about a cat I once had that had kittens. The kittens became wild cats and we could never catch them but the mom cat sleepted in my bed at night. One night I heard a loud mew from the corrner of the closet, I looked but saw nothing. The mew contuned all night and my cat layed nexted to me the entire time but had her eyes wide open stairing into the closet. My door was closed so there was no way anything could have come in. The next day we found on the the kittens dead under a tractor. It looked like it had just frozen in place and was stiff, we never knew how it died. It had seemed like it was crying to it's mom the entier night of it's death and I was able to hear it's cry.

I was just thinking about the same thing yesterday.

I literally live 2 mins away from where Sully Station, VA police shootings took placehttp://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/08/virginia.shooting/index.html

Nowadays when I walk my dogs in the morning, my pug would bark as we walk past the spot where one of the officers was shot (the officer's parking spot is now adorned with flowers and gated off by wood blocks), and she would continue barking as we walk past.  And as we head back the pug would just stand there, staring into space.  However, my other dog a Jindo, does nothing of the kind.  Whether or not the dog sees anything is irrelevant since I can neither prove it nor disprove it, but it's a ghastly feeling to know that just a few months ago 2 police officers and their killer met their fate in that spot.

As for the orbs mentioned above, that looks like a dirty lense to me...

I somewhat believe in ghost or spirits    I have a rather strange story myself.   My husband#%92s sister had just passed away a couple weeks before we started dating.  I had been the first female after her death to have free roam of the house besides his mom.  Well me and my boyfriend got serous I was aloud to stay over night in his room.  Some of the strangest thing would happen.  The bedroom door at night would creep open slowly (like you know when someone is peeking in) I knew it couldn#%92t have been the parents checking on us cause it would happen late late at night.  Even after we married and moved into a brand new home Once in a blue moon late at night the bedroom door will still creep open and close.  I often wonder if it#%92s his sister checking up on him and watching over her little brother.  Or if she is paying him back for all the times of picking on her like little brothers do.  I#%92m hoping it#%92s just the heat or air kicking on.

I never really believed in ghosts or that kind of thing until about 15 years ago. I was living with my 3 cats in an old victorian that had been split up into apartments. I had the 2nd and 3rd floor to myself, my bedroom being in the 3rd floor gabled attic. One night after I'd gone to bed, one of my cats kept pacing and me-owling because something was scratching at the ceiling. The freaky thing was that everytime I'd turn the light on the scratching would stop, but would start again as soon as the light went off. This went on for a while before I convinced myself that it was nothing, mouse, etc. Well, I dropped off to sleep and awoke later to the sound of footsteps coming up my back stairs and into my bedroom. I was absolutely terrrifed. Whatever IT was came around to the side of my bed and I could feel its presence there, and a weight pressing me down. It was as if I was paralyzed. After what seemed like an eternity but probably seconds, I was finally able to move. I bolted so fast down those stairs, am surprised that I didn't fall and break my neck. Anyway, I got every single light on on that 2nd floor and went and hid in my front closet until morning (where I found all 3 cats hiding as well)! For days afterward I was completely shook up and had to have friends over at night, but never had a revisit, thank goodness.

A couple of years ago my mom was diagnosed with cancer and during the time of surgeries and recoveries I became ill as well. I was too busy with work and taking care of mom I ignored the pain in my sides and the nausea for several weeks. Then one night about two days before a rush to the e.r. where I was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis me and the family were all in the living room . My husband who had always laughed at ghost stories and my family's belief in them was on the computer when he jerked around and looked at me like I was the ghost. He looked really shook up but wouldn't say what was wrong. Shortly thereafter me and the kids went to bed and he was still up on the computer. About 2:00 am he woke me up and asked me if I was okay and I said I was although I was hurting pretty bad I felt I was gonna live and he was looking like I was already dead. He sat down on the bed and was so upset I thought he was gonna cry and he is not an easily upset person. He explained to me that he had seen a woman in a black/dark grey dress and veil standing next to our bedroom door when we had been watching t.v. earlier and then after I had went to bed he had come in to check on me because it seemed I was moaning in my sleep and he again saw the woman again, this time standing at the foot of our bed as if she were watching me. It really scared me. Then later that day I spiked a really bad fever and drastically worsened to the point of going to the e.r. After the e.r. visit I spent several weeks recovering and during that time my favorite peke, Tobe began barking and growling at empty hallways and rooms. One afternoon about three weeks after the first *sightings* I was laying on the couch resting with all 3 pekes on the floor .All was quiet and I was trying to sleep when I heard someone talking. I looked at the front door thinking I had been asleep and someone had come in but the door was locked and when I called out and no one answered. I thought I had just dreamed it or something until I saw Tobe. He was sitting just almost out of sight with his hackles raised and his teeth bared practically foaming but he wasn't making a sound. I heard someone start talkin again but real quiet. I couldn't make out the words. Tobe went beserk and started shrieking. The other dogs joined in and then they all three began backing up towards me and then on top of me. Tobe was snapping and snarling at something I couldn't see but he acted like he thought it was after me. Then after probably ten minutes of this they just went quiet. Tobe whined for a little while after and would continually lick my hands. I don't know what they saw but they continued this behavior for several months until Tobe who was only 18 months old died for no apparent reason. He was fine on Friday and when I woke up Saturday he was dead beside my bed. Maybe  he was protecting me from something and made an ultimate sacrifice. Who knows.

I do think they can see or sense spirits.

I tend to believe so, too.  I've got some Native American flute music that I play that has rattles in it, as well as, chanting.  Our male Golden always growls during the prayer-chanting part and is completely on edge during the use of rattles.  I was sharing this story with a Native friend and she really got a good chuckle out of it...then shared with me that rattles are used to call spirits.

I absolutely LOVE reading all these stories.  I do believe in ghosts but have not experienced anything.  I also love to watch Ghost Hunters... thats the only show like that I will watch though, the rest seem to be a lot of faking it and nonsense.

I have goosebumps on the top of my head while reading this lol...

Wow, quite a turnout for this topic I created!  I enjoyed reading all your ghost stories.  I never thought what spiritdogs' name meant.  But now I know...  Anyone remember the Golden Retriever in the movie "Poltergeist"?

Wow, you have a great memory.  I didn't remember the dog's name.  It was on TV not that long ago, and I watched it some of it.  I couldn't watch too much because I was alone at the time.  That movie gets really spooky.

Can you believe I saw that at the movies in 1982 at the age of 5?  Not once, but twice.  My sister was 7.  The actress who played the older daughter in "Poltergeist" Dominique Dunne, was murdered that same year the movie came out.  On this very day, November 4th.  What a coincidence.  And then Heather O'Rourke who played the younger daughter died six years later.
