Dogs & Ghosts

Coincidence, maybe, we choose to think not. 2 weeks after our lab terrior mix Aggie died, DH and I went to the Humane Society where we recused her from, to drop off a Memorial donation. While we were there, the volunteer asked if we were ready to look at anyone who was up for adoption. We were both visibly upset and said no, not yet. After we got in the car we were discussing how we'd know when we'd be ready. DH turns the volume up to the IPOD which is set to random shuffle. Out of the 1000 songs on his ipod, guess which one appeared at that moment? "I wanna be your dog" by IggyPop. The only song on the whole thing that refernced dog! Neither one of us could say a word, but after that we both felt like we had Aggie's ok to move forward with adopting another dog. :)

i have never seen a random ghost or apparition (sp?) like many of you describe. but i have been visited in my dreams by one of my uncles that died in a car crash several years ago. the first time it happened was about 1 yr or so after he died and it kind of freaked me out. since then, it has happened a few times (but not recently) and everytime it does i am kind of happy and sad about the whole experience.

since it is (or seems to be) in my dreams i am not sure it qualifies as a ghost siting per se, or if i am just imagining the whole thing. but it seems really real when it happens.

Don't have any ghost stories (Thank God - I'm such a weenie - I think I'd die on the spot) But these are some good spooky stories!!

I do think they can see or sense spirits. There have been many times when Ash will bark at what seems like nothing when we're at my parents house. I have always thought they had a ghost so I just assume that's what Ash sees. There have been a couple of times when Ash has gotten down from the couch and started growling at nothing. She looks up towards the ceiling like there's someone right in front of her and she growls. Her teeth are bared and hackles raised. I'm conviced that it's a ghost. Then there are times when Ash will start running around like she's playing with another dog and at those times I tell my mom, "It's Toby!" Toby was our old German Shepherd that passed away last summer. This stuff only happens at my parent's house.

We used to house sit a cat that would sit in the middle of our hall way and howl.  Right in front of the  2nd bathroom door.

Her owner, who couldn't keep her where he was staying at the time, used to belong to this ghost hunters club.  I told him about Puma's reaction to that spot in our hallway, so he took his camera and took pictures where she was staring.  There appeared to be an "orb" in one of the picutures he took.  But it could have been a light refraction in the mirror of the bathroom.

Ohhhh, now I've got my self scared.  Looking at the bathroom entry.

Great!  Now look what you've done![:o]

I *think* that I've seen ghosts a few times, but maybe they were just dreams.  A few times I've been laying in bed and I've seen people standing next to me, and I'd swear that I hadn't yet fallen asleep.  Once it was an asian man who was floating above me, watching me.  He then floated up to the ceiling and slipped inside my light fixture.  The next time was a woman, standing next to me and watching me.  Another time it was a woman standing at the foot of my bed.

Each of these times was in a different house, and I never saw any of them again.  Which is what makes me think that they might be dreams.  Dunno...they sure FELT real.

Last year I was a bit freaked out with my dog, though.  Every day we'd walk in the dark and every day at least 3 or 4 streetlights would flicker and go out as we walked past them.  Then, when we were past they would turn back on.  This really scared me.  Chase didn't react at all.

Uhhh, I'm home alone.  I can't read these anymore.  I come back when my husband gets home.  Sorry.

I don't have any stories to share (but I'm loving all of yours!) but as with a lot of others, I do believe dogs can sense things that humans (generally) can not, such as spirits.

We lived in a haunted house when I was a kid.  Man, that house was SPOOKY.  A little girl had died there in the basement. My dad saw a lady walking through the house one night. Tne night we moved in, my sister saw SOMETHING standing on the porch--looked like a devil.  She FREAKED.  We only lived there as long as we had to (about a year).  As soon as married student hosing had a spot for our family (dad was in college) we left.

My house (the one I am currently in) has an odd occurence every once on awhile.  I will be sitting on the counch in the family room late in the evening  when I can smell cigarette smoke.  NOBODY around here (even our neighbors!) smoke, so I know it's not from anyone HERE.  Nobody  believed me until DH and a friend both experienced it with me.  It's not malevolent, just seems like someone is sitting with us, having a smoke.  It smells like the real thing because it causes my head to clog up immediately (I am allergic to cigarette smoke)

You know, I really do think that dogs can see or sense a lot of things that us humans can't. They always seem to know when you are in a bad mood, or sad or something is wrong. Maybe it's the way we carry ourselves or a smell we give off or whatever. But last night, my wife and I had dinner at her parents house, of course Gobi came with because he gets treats when he goes there and gets to play with the cats.
My wifes older brother was diagnosed with schitzophrenia sp?? I know I butchered that word. Anyways, Gobi is usually a little leary around new men and anywone that walks through the door he gives a little warning bark. It was his first day back from the hospital yesterday and the first time Gobi would meet him. When him and his twin brother (yes they both are twins and have the same problem) walked through the door he walked right up to him, wagging his tail, and licking his hand. He followed him around the whole time we are there. It was a little strange because he is usually stuck to myself or my wife anywhere we go.
I really think dogs know if some one is "special"

Here's the pics I promised. If you look closely at some of them, you can see a lot of orbs...

At the risk of destroying my budding scientific career, I'm going to go right out on a limb and say I totally 100% believe in spirits. I'll go so far as to say I can see them and talk to them, but whether you believe me or not is totally up to you. Suffice to say they're fact to me. [:)] Unless I'm delusional or mentally ill and don't realise it. [&:]

I've been enjoying everyone's stories. I don't have any I want to share, though. When Penny goes nuts barking at something, it's usually a complete stranger she picks out walking a good distance away. Sometimes she goes mental over someone purely based on the way they walk, it seems. Which is weird because she's generally very friendly and has never met anyone face to face that she hasn't tried to win over. But hey, maybe those people she barks at are ghosts and I've never realised. Who said ghosts couldn't come out during the day, right?
