Please explain to your dad that at this age, that little tummy just can't hold enough to properly nourish the pup in two feedings. By trying to eat more than he can comfortably hold at one time the pup is going to poop a whole lot more cuz he simply can't hold it....so that extra food is wasted because he isn't getting any benefit from it. Splitting the daily ration into 3 feedings instead of two also helps keep the pup from having gawd awful discomfort from hunger between those 2 feedings and can also prevent vomiting bile because the tummy is too empty.
Think of it this way....for the first several weeks of his life he ate whenever he felt the need at momma's teat. When I wean a foster litter they are fed FOUR times a day and then down to three about 3 months or so, and then down to two when they lack interest in the third meal.
You shouldn't feed MORE, it should just be split into 3 meals instead of 2.
