    threw up white foam

bosco (6lb puppy w/ pnemonia) threw up white foam this morning...i am going to call my vet as soon as they are open, but thought i would post here, and get some feedback from all of you. i gave him a small peice of raw carrot last night and thats the only thing different i have done. since we've had him, he threw up once before, but we were in the car for about an hour, and it was a paste of his food, and i am pretty sure that time he was car sick (the poor guy!!)
his energy is up everyday, which tells my gut he is getting better, but now i am discouraged and alarmed.

do you think the white foam could be gunk from his lungs? could it mean his pnemonia is getting worse?
again, i am calling my vet asap (they open in an hour) but wanted to see what you guys thought.

Try not to panic.  Sometimes mine will drink too fast and gift me with a frothy present.

Sometimes they'll upchuck bile from a too empty tummy, but that usually has a bit of yellow in it......could be bile tho.

Did he THROW up or COUGH up?  That makes a difference.  Thowing up comes from the gut....coughing up could come from the lungs, but I would *think* even if that's the case, it's good that he's getting that crap OUT of the lungs?

I'm no expert.....the vet will have your best answers......but didn't want to see you freaking out......and it IS scarey when they are little and sick.  Fingers and paws crossed that hes AOK.

I agree with Glenda that you should try not to panic (not that I envision you frantically running around or anything), but try to stay calm around the dog because they most certainly can pick up on your mood (e.g. momma's scared, should I be scared too?).

What happened right before Bosco threw up?  Did he drink a lot, just wake up, just come in from running around, etc?  If he had just drank a lot of water, it may be that he just drank too much, too fast.

It could also be an empty stomach like glenda suggested.  Has he eaten anything today?  Has he thrown up any more?

i have a very calm panic mode, as i own my own business and i have learned that if i panic in pretty much any situation it leads to more problems [:)].
i called the vet and they said it isnt an emergency. he has a scheduled appt next week, so hopefully the xrays turn up that he is improving. he just woke up and he was on an empty stomach, so maybe that was it. i dont know. he hasnt thrown up again, and he is friskier than ever today! i will update his condition on this thread, since i am sure people are getting sick of new threads about bosco and his crazy mom! haha![:D]

We have all been where you are now. Difference is, for us old farts we didn't have the internet to turn to! [8|]

Asking questions and looking for advice just shows us that you are dedicated to your baby.  THAT is always welcome.

That Bosco is adorable! From the time Mookie was a puppy until about 3 months ago, sometimes if his stomach was empty he'd throw up a foam or bile. We ended up feeding him his normal amount of food, but instead of twice a day we'd break it into 3 meals. The only thing I can think of to explain it was that he was growing so quickly and playing so hard that he'd just burn through his energy reserves. Kind of like people when they "bonk" from exercising too hard without replenishing their energy stores.

Hope he continues to rally from the pnuemonia! Man, is he ever cute.

Mookie makes a good point, how many meals a day does bosco get?  At his age he should be getting fed 3 - 4 times daily.

i feed him technically 3 times, but it seems like he is just finishing up and i top him off again! (so to speak)

he has been ok today. no more foamy upchuck as of yet.

Hope he has a continued speedy recovery. Our boys occasionally throw up white foam if they drink a lot and then get riled up too quickly afterwards. I wouldn't be too concerned about that. But he is absolutley precious!! Keep the pictures coming! [;)]
