I also think everyone needs to be responsible for what they themselves post, and sometimes that means re-reading posts to find what was thought to be offensive in the first place. No one is perfect, and I find here a lot that when accusations fly from a poster, 99.9% of the time that poster is equally as guilty of the same said accusation. That will always be a mystery to me. Why it's good for the goose but not the gander. ?????
Maybe there could be a section soley for debates. Nutrition, training, breeding, etc.....Lots of boards have areas set up like that so the diehard debaters have a forum to use instead of the other areas in general. If you want to debate, go to those specific threads. If you don't, then DON'T go there! It's that simple.
Also, as a "newbie", I"m finding the use of that word lately being used in a derogatory fashion, as though we are not really welcomed here. I am not a "troll" or "firestarter". I may just believe a little differently than someone else. That's life.
I don't agree with listing poster's credentials for all the previous reasons mentioned. How do I know you are legit?? I don't know you or your experience, or that you are even telling the truth! Way too much liability there I'm afraid. In fact, sometimes a little humble pie goes a long way.
I've seen posters blasted for feeding certain brands of dog food! Sometimes you have to sit back and remember we are talking about dogs here. Jaime mentioned this concerning training debates. These are dogs we're talking about, this isn't finding a cure for cancer or rocket science. Lots of people here have pet dogs, period. They don't run agility, they don't do conformation, they don't use behaviorists, they don't spend $100 per bag of dog food. So be it. They are no less valuable on this forum. I include myself in this category and the one thing we should all have in common that matters is our love for dogs.
For any type of moderator position (I know you aren't really looking Jaime!) I would only ever nominate a man. Working with women is a chore and the hormonal moodiness can be unbearable. Men tend to be MUCH more even keeled in nature and don't hold grudges. They insult each other and then go out for a beer! Women hold grudges, get much nastier and personal. This is JMHO, but I work in a profession of mostly women and see this firsthand. Thank God for the male doctors on my unit because all the nurses are female and it's rough!!
