What have the names of your dogs been and where did you get the names from?

Ananda was our first dog, an akita x gsd. Ananda (the person) was the Buddha's closest disciple. Not the smartest, not the most devout, not the most learned, but the most loyal and his best friend. Ananda the dog lived up to his name splendidly before his tragic death.

Conrad was named for Joseph Conrad. But not for any real reason. We were just searching for a name and my husband is an English teacher, so there are books all over the place, and he just hit on that as a name for the new dog. And then the Heart of Barkness jokes started flying.

Marlowe was a tangent from Conrad. I had all sorts of cheesy names based on Marlowe being black and tan, but DH suggested instead Marlowe. Marlow (no e--that was a communication breakdown as I was getting the tags made and text messaging with DH) is the narrator of Heart of Darkness. DH also noted that Marlowe the dog is rather inscrutible, as is Marlow the character.

Gizmo- She was named after the main character in the movie “gremlins”, the little cute gremlin know as “Gizmo” I had just watched the movie a few nights before one of my neighbors brought this little, not more than 6 week old, puppy over to my house.  First thing we thought was it looks like that gremlin from the movie, so we called her “Gizmo”  She was just abandoned at my neighbors doorstep and my neighbor couldn#%92t keep he so I agreed to foster her till I found her a home.  Well…looks like I found her a home.  I mostly call her “Gizzy” because  when I say “Gizmo” most people think she#%92s a he so her name has changed a little to match her personality.

the little terrier mix that we had when i ws younger was named chubby because when we got him we would lay him on a pillow and he was so chubby that he would just roll right off it.

my sort of second dog (really my dads) was a beagle named ralph. my dad named him, he had run out into the feild and my dad stood there calling random names at him and he came to ralph, so ralph it was. i loved that dog, he would get up with me in the morning before school and watch cartoons.

my husbands rotty he had when we got together was named storm, after the x-men i think.

our dog now, berserker, got his name because he was a psycho puppy and we couldn't find a name that fit. we just happened to watch clerks one night and when the cousin walked up and started singing berserker we both looked at each other, then the ;pup, and cracked up. it fit him perfectly.

My husband came up with the names for all the dogs we've had since we've been married: the first 2 are pretty self explantory: Heineken, Michelob (Mick).  The new little stink pot is Caleb Takoda.  Caleb is after my husband's 4th great grandfather.  My husband came up wih Takoda because I wanted something to go with Caleb (it's Native American for "Friend to Everyone".  I'm leaning towards registering him as KueKen's Caleb Taokoda (one of my nieces used to call us Aunt and Uncle KueKen).
Growing up, there was my black Lab,  Jethro (a country dog needed a country name), the Norwegian Elkhounds, Helga (she came with the name) and Perky (her call name because she was the first one in the litter whose ears stood up), the Toy Poodle, Rags (some one thought she was a pile of rags when she was a pup), and the Poodle/Schnauzer/Terrier mix, Grits (President Carter had a Terrier mix named Grits).

The first dog we had was when I was under 3(I know that because my sister wasn't born yet).  She was a beagle named Amber.  Red/white(Gina, correct me on the name for the colors, but she was the same color as your Sandy).  (Don't ask me how I remember stuff from when i was so young!) Next was Deogee(pronouced D-O-G) my mom named her and spelled it like that.  She was a border collie/aussie mix.  Then was TJ an Australian Shepherd.  We kept one of her puppies and my sister named him Peanut because the brown(he was a tri color) marks over his eyes looked like peanuts to her and he was the runt of the litter.  Then, my mom got a Cocker named Max.  We got Shadow(she looked like Shadow from Homeward Bound) when my sister and I lived with my dad.  She is a Golden Retreiver/Lab mix as far as we can tell, but looks a lot like a poorly bred Golden.  Then Girl and Little Guy at my dads who we found in a drainage pipe.  They are lab mixes and just one of the many that are found every spring around my dads.  Rose's full name is Rocky Point Wildwood Flower after the Johnny Cash song, but my mentor and his kids didn't want to call her Flower, so they picked Rose.  I couldn't think of a name for Colton so I asked my mentor and he said he heard the name Colton at his sons baseball game and liked it.  It fits Colton because hes more like a person than a dog.  My mom named her Jindo Chance because he had a second chance after being rescued from Korea, but around the same time, she bought a horse named Chance and the horse had the name since he was a baby and he's about 8.  So, she changed the Jindo's name to Chase since it was close and he loves chasing things.
Wow, that ended up being a lot longer than I had planned!

Drizzle got her name from the black clouds in her coat, looks like she is bringing the rain.  Blizzard got her name cause she all white and I thought she was going to be trouble when she grew up.  Petro got his name cause his coat is shiny and black like oil.  Nessie cause she an English Bulldog and was named after Lockness.  Pepperdine because she was so black and intelligent as a puppy.  Bruiser cause he knocked me over the first day.  Then there was just Teddy.

Cassie's name came from the identical looking (but male) dog my family had in England before coming to Canada. His name came from "Cassius Clay" aka Muhammed Ali.

Nitnoy came with her name, it was given to her because it means "little one" in Siam (she was the runt)

Minnow well her name came from my warped little mind - I thought it sounded like a cute endearment so now I have a cat with a fish name (the next kitty will have to be Musky or Newt LOL)[:D]

Dodger - his name came of course from the Artful Dodger from Oliver Twist.  It fits perfectly because he also "dodged" traffic (found him on the side of the road) and he does "steal" things...he's more of a barterer really, I gave you this so what do I get?[:)]
