Really?  Both of them in Kokomo Indiana took my APBT's.  I used both of them at different times.  Not everyday but from time to time.  I didn't have a problem with it and neither did they.  I will however let them know that you think BOTH of us SHOULD have had a problem with it.  [8|]

Was this recently, since the majority of the hysteria about them? I thought it had been many years since you had APBTs...

Of the ten or so daycares I looked into the the past year, only one would take them. But now that my dog is over a year, and I have read the PBRC and badrap sites about dog parks and daycares, I've decided that putting a bully breed into that type of situation isn't something a responsible owner would do.

What would that be? I'm talking about the merits of this case, as you requested. The only thing I 'assumed' was that the OP was on a limited budget, by the fact they are living in an apartment. Fairly reasonable. Otherwise, I'm discussing what all these other kinds of options would be for a person in this situation. Because I just don't see that many that are truely viable.

It has been several years, but the "hysteria" about them certainly isn't AS recent.

And how many would you need?

Of course not.  YOU think a responsible owner gives away their dog when they move.  [;)]

I guess I am just different than you.  Duh!!!  When I adopted Odie, I commited to that relationship FOR LIFE.  Apparently you are okay with ending that relationship when it is no longer convenient.

It has been several years, but the "hysteria" about them certainly isn't AS recent. No, but the cloud of BSL has done nothing but grow since then. Even in unaffected cities people see the liability as too great. In addition to daycares not allowing them, most apartments and/or landlords won't either, even if they allow other pets, which is virtually impossible to find anyway.

And how many would you need? Well I would need one, that would allow bully breeds, and that I was really comfortable with. Which I didn't find.

YOU think a responsible owner gives away their dog when they move.  No, actually I think responsible owners don't put traditionally dog aggressive dogs into situations where they might be triggered and contribute to the increasing amount of bad press.

I also think that a person should do best by their dog, and that isn't putting a large dog with a high energy level in an apartment alone 6 days a week.

Apparently you are okay with ending that relationship when it is no longer convenient. No, but I am okay with making a choice that provides for a better life for the dog than a person can provide.

I give up.  You win, Kelly.  If you move and own a bully breed, the ONLY thing you can do is give your dog away.

That isn't the only thing a person can do, but depending on the situation, the place moving to, and the resources of the family involved, sometimes it might be better for the dog, no matter what the breed. Quite honestly, I'd rather see a dog living on a acreage than in a tent.

But, in ideal circumstances, a person wouldn't have a dog (or any dependants) until they were stable. And, even then, things can change.

probe--let it go, even I did.
I am on an ultral limited budget and live in a shared accomodation apartment.
Live in a tent?  It already is hitting minus 10 at nights where I live and goes to minus 40 (celcius) in the winter.
Doggy day care?  Tanktank and other dogs=disaster most of the time.Where he is now I can visit him and I factually know he is doing fantastic and loves where he is and the people love him too.I miss him, and thats what I have to get over.
And assuming I didnt try?  I tried for months to keep him in my life.  I just in the end felt this was better for him.  This isnt like I took him and dropped him on a doorstep.  I spent months looking for the right home if it came down to that.  And it did.

I find it interesting how on any forum a person posts on there is always one person who "gets off" by creating controversy and cutting others down.  Too bad I reacted to him with my idiotic remarks, because I know that he thrives on that reaction.

I think that one thing we're forgetting here is that sh*t happens.  Sometimes, through no fault of their own, people's lives change drastically in a short time.  Maybe today you have a house w/yard and a dog.  Maybe because of illness, loss of job, divorce, etc., you lose the house and have to move into an apartment that happens to have a strict "no dogs" policy. You have to put a roof over your head somewhere. In this situation, a person is not likely to be able to afford doggie day care or even a dog walker a couple of times a week. I think that without knowing the whole story, you can't say that someone is just getting rid of the dog because they're moving.

Having an aggressive (sometimes dog and people) APBT, I know for a fact I would never be able to put Boss in doggy day care. They don't want anything to do with him when it comes to a training class either.. he would have to do private training and I can't afford that so I do a lot of things myself with him.

Heck, I worry about being able to get him into a crate before the people get here should I ever have to call 911 for myself.

With my eye disease there is a good chance of me going legally blind eventually.. I am fortunate that my mom would take us all in and let me wander around bumping into her walls before I would have to face the decision of rehoming my babies, but not everyone has those options.

Granted there are people that don't make the type of life time committments we do to our fur kids, but that doesn't mean that everyone who rehomes their pets doesn't love them. I KNOW without a doubt that it tore Glenda up to rehome Sadie, and she wouldn't have done it without trying everything else first.. I have to have more respect for someone who can admit it doesn't work and to make the selfless decision to do what's best for their babies even if it hurts them. It actually takes a lot of love to look at your furry companion and be able to recognize that despite your best efforts to make it work, they are miserable and would be better off somewhere else. I know I'd rather see a dog running free on lots of acreage, like the OP's dog is now doing than to lay around miserable and get fat and lazy from not being able to run and get exercise.

"For many people, the characterizing feature of trolling is the perception of intent to disrupt a community in some way. Inflammatory, sarcastic, disruptive or humorous content is posted, meant to draw other users into engaging the troll in a fruitless confrontation. The greater the reaction from the community the more likely the user is to troll again, as the person develops beliefs that certain actions achieve his/her goal to cause chaos.

Often, a person will post a sincere message about which he/she is emotionally sensitive. Skillful trolls know that an easy way to upset the person is to falsely claim that they are a "troll." In forums where most users are similar to each other, outsiders may be perceived as trolls simply because they do not fit into the social norms of that group. It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish between a user who merely has different values, views, or ideas, and a user who is intentionally trolling."

Ready?  Joke on the way..... Ready?  **Content removed**  Going away now....sorry for the hijack, just couldn't resist.

Forgive me for being irritated with someone who gives away a dog because he is moving, then comes here looking for support.  To my way of thinking, moving is a pretty lame reason to give away a dog.  In retrospect, perhaps that is what I should have said.

Haha i am sorry but i find ironic that comes from a person that shoots dogs i know i know what you have valid reasons when you do that (like harrasing livestock), and i apologize in advance if you toke it wrong, that was not my intention, is just a funny fact [;)]

[align=center][:'(] Why do you have to be mean?  He was only asking a question...In this day and age I would think everyone should not be mean to one another....I had a dog (cocker spaniel) for almost 15years and finally I knew I had to put me down, it took me almost 10 years to get another dog, which he is a AKC Beagle and his name is Chesney...I love hime to death and he is part of my whole family....We treat him if he was one of us...So, everyone be nice not mean...We are not here for a life time so enjoy it while you still can...
