Can anyone help me determine this dogs breed?

So I've recently(about 5 days ago) picked up this dog. He was following me around outside when I was checking the mail, and I've lived here for 13 years and never seen him anywhere before. So I took him in and noticed he had a few cuts, and big bump on his head, I also saw what looked to be a rib poking out a bit(maybe broken?), and I noticed that he was VERY skinny, and malnurited. So I fed him a bit, led him drink some water, and gave him a bath. Since then it looks like he has grown alot, in just the 5 days. I have him scheduled for a vet-checkup in 4 days, and I was trying to determine his breed, and I don't know...I was wondering if anyone here could help me out on this, because I would love to know. I think after the vet, I'm gonna put an ad in the paper maybe for a found dog, and if nothing shows up I'll keep it. He's as sweet as can be and loves kids. Anyway, I would be very grateful if anyone could help me determine his breed. I only have two pics right now, but I could take more if they're needed. Thanks in advance.

I don't know, to me he looks like he's got some pit bull or boxer.

Looks like a pitty mix to me. I'm not an expert on bully breeds, though. Poor fella! Bless you for taking care of him! I bet he fell out of a pickup truck. That's how I got my Stevie dog.

I think a bully breed to me....depending on the area, more than likely a pit bull or pit bull mix.  They ARE the sweetest things, they love their people!!!!  Good for you for taking him in, I think that I would be tempted to not look very hard for the old owners.....[:D]

Also, welcome to the forum and I think I can speak for everyone here, I am sure that we will "need" more pictures to really make a positive identification!!!   heheheheee

I'd agree with the others about the breed. He's a cutie! Kudos to you for picking him up.

I would also have to agree with the idea that he is a pit or pit mix....Cute lil'fella[;)] Thanks for saving him!

Thanks for all the positive replys guys! My sister came over today and brought her pitt over, he's about a year old and they got along great. When you compare the two they do look alot alike, aside from size(her dog is huge). Will the vet be able to tell me for sure what he is? I don't think he's much older than maybe 4 or 5 months, he chews alot, and seems to be very hyper. He has sort of a pigeon toed walk, he walks with his front paws pointed outwards(not to far, but still noticable), would that mean anything? Thanks again for all the replys, this seems like a good place.

Here's another pic, I'll get more when I get batteries for my camera tommorow.

He looks like a pit mix to me as well, and a darn cute one. The vet probably won' t know for sure about his breed, but might be able to make a guess. The vet might also be able to take a guess on age as well. I think they can tell based on his teeth, like which ones he's gotten so far if he doesn't have them all yet, and what if any build up he might have on them, although if he's young he may not have any yet.

I agree the vet will be able to give you a great idea on his age, but as far as breed the vet will ony be able to guess.  I agree with the others he def looks like a pitt or pitt mix... bt sure looks like mostly pitt to me.  I bet hell e a sweetie!! Welcome! and let us know what the vet says.

Yep, he's either a Pit or Am Staff mix.  What a sweet face! You'll not regret adding him to your home.  Bull breeds are awesome dogs.

I would suggest he gets into an obedience class ASAP. Pitties are lovely dogs who will do anything to please their owners, but they are dogs that need good, clear, firm guidelines. I hope he becomes a permanent part of your family.  BTW, has he got a name yet?

Guys, I don't see a pitty or a mix, I see an Amstaff there. Broad head, slightly broader muzzle. Am Staff. That is short for American Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Either way you did a wonderful thing by taking in this poor fella off the street. It is almost as if he picked you to be his hero. You will NOT regrett taking him in with your family. They are the best pets to have around children and people. You can go to [linkhttp://www.AKC.org]www.AKC.org[/link] and pull the breed up to look at the nature of the breed and characteristics of the breed.
I think he is absolutely handsome and will be a great part of your family. The Gods are smiling down on you for taking in a fur Angel. Big hugs to you and your family from me and my funny crew.

Attached is the newest Beaucephus a pitty mix.

I think american bull dog or amstaff.
But God is he cute and looks like he's not having any problem settling in!
    cutest nose I've ever seen.

Amstaff is short for American Staffordshire Terrier. There's another breed called a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Considering that some amstaffs are dual registered as pitties in the UKC, is it really that far off to call one the other?
