    Bull Dog Problems

My girl friend just rescued a bulldog from the humane society and he seems horribly depressed.  So far he's just been so lethargic.  We're taking him to the vet soon, but are hoping that he's just having some problems adjusting to his new environment.  Any suggestions?

Good for you!  Could be he is confused and depressed right now.  Do you know his history?  How old?  How long in the shelter? Abused?  Could be a lot of things contributing to his mood.  Excellant move taking him to the vet soon.  First step in helping him lead a healthy happy life.  For the moment, quiet voices, gentle movements, a little space, yummy treats.  He needs time to adjust.

Now we just need pictures !  [:D]

Could be he just needs time to adjust, could be that he isn't feeling well or it could be that he is just an old lazy bulldog. Good call on going to the vet, rule out being sick first and formost, after that, you can work on cheering him up...

Good for your girl firend for rescuing him!

Bull dogs after a certain age are not balls of fire and energy....perhaps he is behaving normally for a dog of his age-the vet is the best source of information in that department.

It's always been my experience that shelter dogs need a week or two to adjust to their new home and let their personality blossom again. When we first brought Marlowe home, he just kind of stood around and stared (not sat, not laid down, stood) a lot. It took about two weeks for his real self to start shining through. He'd been through a lot in a pretty short period of time (gone stray, picked up by AC, taken to a bunch of shelters before they found one with room, handled by a bunch of strangers, veterinary exams, medications, vaccinations, neutering and a whole new home with another dog and two cats and two new humans--phew!!!) which is the case for most shelter dogs. I'm sure he'll perk up, but a vet check is an excellent idea because he could have a common illess that he picked up at the shelter that's just bringing him down.
