Spamming is rude...spamming with HUGE PICTURES is ruder than rude.

Please shrink that down and you might also check the forum rules on advertising for profit businesses...

    errrr...[:@]

We have seem to have a flood of these ads lately[:'(]

    Who's with me:

well i looked at the dog portraits purely out of curiousity, normally i don't like to critisize a fellow artist, but i must say, she is very good at paint by numbers.

ACK Gaylemarie! [sm=lol.gif] Her particular style would probably appeal to some. I'm an artist too and the only thing I'll criticize at this point is the sleazy way to get some free advertising. Business must not be going so good, so time to get out and get a whole bunch of hits on the site, then maybe sell a portrait.  I just wish it didn't take so long to remove the links to the sites, just so they DON'T find a customer here.

Thats exactly what I thought when I saw the painting.  If you look at her site the painting are an exact copy of a photo, they evern have the two sie by side to compair, backgrounds and all.  I know some compter softwear has the ability to make a regular photo look just like that.  Normaly I like most art and after doing a lot of oil paining myself I understand how difficult it can be.  I have always been told never to copy any ones eles work that includes photos because photos are art as well.  I just don't care for this type of methoud, it's almost tracing to me.  This is just my Openion and I'm shure others may have a liking of it.

I was more upset about the huge pic she posted on here, she removed it but it was giant!  like life size or something.  Glad that is gone but the link is still there.  I've just been tiered of people coming here to gain profit from us, like we are that dog crazy to buy any random dog thing that pops on  here.

Owners of photos hold the copyright to them, and any reproduction must have the express permission of the owner of the photo to reproduce them. I have a friend that does graphic reproductions of photos - some look like oils, some look like watercolors, some sketches - and she usually takes her own photos. The buyers know that they are graphic reproductions, not hand painted or sketched, and her work is lovely, much more detailed and realistic than these. My first thought after looking at this person's work was that it could have been done with an older version of Adobe Photoshop, but she'd have to have a rather large printer to do the one of the Dobermans on her site, so I'm not so sure if they are graphically reproduced. I would suspect traced.

Lookie! I can do that kind of art too! See!

    Compared to

I'l sell it to anyone for $0.01... oh yeah, we're not supposed to do that here are we, heheh.
Actually this took me about 2 minutes on my computer.  But hey, I took the picture XD
Pretty horse. To bad he bucks.

Ok, now really, Tara, you have great potential, but you need to be a bit more creative on your dogs and horses. I did like you oil paintings of nature though. If people wanted pictures like that they would just use a computer program. In my opinion the perpose of art is to be creative. I mean, I really have no imagination. It is hard to draw anything that is not just like the picture for me. I have been tempted to do it like that, but it isn't personal when it is just a reproduction of the picture. Just IMHO XD

Folks, the OP certainly did violate the rules of our forum, however, I think it's beneath all of us regulars to be nasty.

Debbie, I need to get with you to figure out something for DH for Christmas of Mr. Ears.  I need some ideas...and you're the talented one!
    • Gold Top Dog
Just to clarify. I wasn't trying to mean if my post sounded it. (Am I considered a regular yet? 160 posts... probably not) I was just trying to give some constructive critisim, and my honest opinion, like I would like someone to give me if I need it. (Just watch, if I ever post my art I'll get all these post saying 'your art sux! you have no imagination.' lol!) Actually I have had a prety harsh review of one pic I did three years back. It looks like scribbling, in their opinion. Oh well, I'll get over it *sniff* and my style with pencil does looks a bit like scribbling.  I really do like the pictures of the trees, I am really bad at backgrounds. XD

Just let me know Glenda, but give me a little time. I got bombarded last Christmas, and this one's going to be worse. I was going to try and teach myself how to do portraits with fabric paint this year but it's been way to busy. I can't even find the time to eat anymore. [sm=lame.gif] I thought doiing portraits on jackets and purses would be cool.

And for the record, I wasn't trying to be nasty. I've been here for 8 years and have always been respectful of the rules here, having had my own business almost the whole time. These posts show up when they know the moderators aren't around, and the links get left up all weekend, for many people to see. I pay a lot of money out every year in advertising expense, and yeah, it would be cool to use this board for free, but I don't. It's called respect for the rules. Dog.com is linked to a commercial site. It's not hard to figure out that commercial postings probably aren't allowed, even if you don't read the rules before you post.

Oh gosh, Debbie, I honestly didn't mean YOU.  And I couldn't agree more that it's a cheap shot to advertise on the forum and I have NO problem with anyone addressing that....I just really am bothered when the product itself is attacked.  That seems kind of tacky.

Shoot me an email if you would and tell me what the process is.  I have no clue what I want Mr. Ear's ON....just something "guy" like.......or if Christmas is going to be too much of a hassle, we'll shoot for my anniversary in May?  Would that be better?

Debbie, I was looking around your site, and going to the links. You artwork is great of course. But also tell the gazehound person that her pictures are great! I don't know if she is on this site or not. I love sighthounds, and her pictures are amazing! I know she probably gets that as lot, but who can't use more praise[:)]
I wish I could do something like that.

As an artist I would rather hear the negative over the positive, which is what make an artist stronger and helps improve their style.  Critiquing is the one thing that drives good artist.  I will state my opinion and that is all it is, my own person opinion.  After hearing so many say what wonderful artwork you have I would much rather find someone who can point out the problems they see so my next piece will look even better then the last.  As Aina referred to it I would also say I was giving “constructive criticism” and not trying to be nasty to the artist.  Every art class I have ever taken there is always a session where the class gets together and discussed each others work.  I have had pieces that were horrible to others but I did not take it as an offence I just used that into to improve on my next piece.

I'm not trying to cause problems or be unkind to anyone here.  I think tho that there is a great difference between constructive criticism and saying that someone is good at "paint by number".

I do a lot of crafting and I would be rather offended if someone inferred that my COUNTED cross stitch, which takes a heck of a lot more time, concentration and dedication were from stamped fabric.
