Toys my pup won't chew up?

My puppy (11 months) is reeeeeally destructive ... and she will not play with a toy that does not come apart somehow, or isn't able to rip.  I give her nylabones constantly and though I'm worried about the plastic, i know it goes through her.  However, to give variety, she has a couple stuffies, a few rubber balls, tennis balls, etc.  She's gone through two stuffed animals in four days ... all my trash cans are filled with stuffing!  I was worried she's eating some of it ... so today I got her a rope toy, with like a rubber donut in the center.  She's ripping little bits off of it.  Here's my question.  Since the nylabone plastic bits are ok because they pass through, are little bits of rubber ok, too?  Anyone have any suggestions?  She doesn't play with ordinary rope toys ...

Go to the pet store and buy her a KONG.  these are sort of snowman-shaped red or black hard rubber and are almost inderstrubtale.  I have an American Staffordshire terrier and these are one of the fe whtings she has NOT been able to destroy!

As for stuffed toys, don't buy these new.  I get the old kid's toys at the thrift store for about .25 each.  I buy the old ratty looking ones and leave the nice ones for the kids. The toys don't last any longer, but at least it only cost s aquarter for her to hav ea good time!

Get a BLACK Kong, not a red one.

My 17 pound JRT can destroy a red Kong, in.... half a minute. She cracks those right in half.

The Kong is a good idea, I've never gotten one of those because I don't think my dogs would play with them...they don't chew on rubber anyway. Another thing that is indestructable is a Busy Dog Ball. I recently bought of those and I haven't had it long, but it's working out well. It's some sort of very hard plastic and is clear. That should work if your dog likes balls.

And Planet Dog Orbee Balls. They're awesome stuff.

buster cubes (food puzzles) wholey Rollers (big expanded rubber balls that you can put a tennis ball in) there are squeaky retrieving toys mad of fire hose practically indistrucable, kong (fill with food to build intrest), premieir make a line of toys that look like squirells or saucers that you can fill with cookies to build interest or make the dog work for thier food.  I would stay away from nylabones because they can ingest pieces  of them then I like stuffies that are ripable the dog gets to destroy the toy without destroying the toy (egg babies)

I would just buy cheap toys and supervise your dog while playing. Your dog "is" playing when he's tearing up his toys. That's what's fun about his toys - he can tear em apart.

I buy cat toys. He really has a good time with those oversized mice looking things that really are covered in rabbit fur. They're only 1.99.

I also sew up the toys he rips. I put new stuffing in them and sew it up with double the thread. You can buy replacement squeekers too.

You should try a kong, but remember the above when he doesn't play with the Kong.

I like to put canned food in a Kong and then freeze it. That's the only way my dog will play with a Kong.

Nylabones are super durable and scented, so your dog will be more interested in it.

Does your dog like to play fetch? I have a terrier. He likes to rip stuff apart or jump for small balls (usually cat toys) or soft frisbies (actaully kong makes a soft rubber frisbie).

our dogs like squeaky toys, but they destroy stuffed toys in seconds. we have been buying almost any toys made by jw pets. their toys are rubber with a squeaker. they can still demolish them, but it takes a lot longer. right now they have good/evil cuz, a ufo looking frisbee type toy, a "ruffian", and an invicible chain (tug toy no squeaker).

these arent toys i would leave with them unsupervised, but we have loads of fun playing with them in the evenings.

The one toy that all four of my dogs play with and love is the teaser ball. It is a ball inside of a ball, the larger ball on the outside has holes so they can see and touch the inside ball but not get it. They chew on it and all the holes on the outside ball are flared out from the chewing..but they have not been able to break it.
One of my dogs loves a bowling ball..I had to have the finger holes filled because he learned how to pick it up using hs teeth in the holes and I was afraid he would break a tooth. Also the holes filled with slobber..which was gross! BUT he loves the thing and will wear himself out pushing it around.
Kongs are great, but only one of my dogs will play with it when it's empty..the other want food in it or they ignore it.
I bought three Planet Dog Balls..the Glo For Good ball, the Eight ball, and the diamond plate ball. For some reason the Glo For Good ball is the one they all want. I thought for sure it would get chewed up..but they just walk around the house mouthing it over and over again. No squeeker is a plus!
Cuz is a toy they do the same thing with..just walk around mouthing it, tossing it, pouncing on it. It has an annoying squeeker though. They have never chewed this up.
Best ball is a hard plastic ball that comes in different sizes. The lagest one has a screw on one end where you can fill the ball up partially with sand or water which makes the ball move unpredictably..they love this toy! I have one in each size, the largest is outside only. They have never been able to break one.
When it comes to stuffies..I allow them to tear up some and not others. If it's a toy I don't want them to tear up I simply interupt them when they hit that "gonna tear this up" point. You can see them settle into the mode. I say "ahh ahh, leave it", and I offer them something they can chew on. This works on three out of four dogs..meaning they figure out which ones are ok and which ones are not..Annie will leave it while you are there, but if you aren't looking she will nab it and run off with it to the bedroom. It is possible to teach them how to play with something though.

I have tried SO many toys for Copper.  My DH calls him "Destructo the Wonder Dog!" all because of his constant need to destroy toys.  [8D]  It all really depends on the level of destruction your dog will do.  For me, I have found that kongs, kong balls & real tennis balls work rather well (he loves to chew on them, but he can't quite destroy), if you are looking for rubber/ball type toys.

For stuffies, that's another story.  Copper is no longer allowed to have stuffies for too long of a period, because he'll find the "weakness" of the toy & destroy it.  If your dog likes to play with things that will come apart/rip here's a neat little toy that I bought.  [linkhttp://www.sitstay.com/store/toys/soft5.shtml]http://www.sitstay.com/store/toys/soft5.shtml[/link]  BUT keep in mind that you'll have to watch to make sure that your puppy doesn't tear it apart (the material isn't the strongest).  What I usually do is hold the toy while he pulls off the limbs and then put them back on & do it all over again.  [:D]

if he's actually eating the nylabones you need to stop giving them to him ASAP. It's NOT ok for him to be ingesting pieces of plastic. You need to distinguish between toys and chewies.  The best way to "keep" toys alive is to only bring them out when you are playing with the dog. He certainly shouldn't be allowed to play with things he's tearing to bits without supervision because of the danger of him ingesting part of the toy.
The safest and healthiest chew you can offer is a raw bone from your grocery store/butcher. A big old knuckle bone. Or a stuffed kong. None of those "smoked" or "sterilized" bones they sell, only raw bones are safe.

Dweezil loves her Nylabones ... I thought, as it says on the packages, that as long as she bites little bits off, they'll pass through her. . .  Once the knuckles are worn down enough that I know she'll start biting chunks, I take it away.  And she only has her Nylas when she's out with me at night watching tv.  And, it doesn't make sense to give her raw when she'll be chewing them on the carpet ...

As for the Kongs, she loves them ... when there's food inside.  Once the food's gone, so's her interest in it.

thanks melindar, I think I'm gonna try those ripem toys ... though ... I bet she'll rip the arms themselves in half!  Also, maisey, I might check out those Glo For Good balls ... I saw them at a family pet store around here.

Keep the suggestions coming, if you've got more, this is helping, I think!

The money you spend on the Glo For Good ball goes to service dogs too!

Freeze the Kongs, overnight, to make them last longer. Get the biggest size they make, or the size that will hold a whole meal, for her. Stuff them TIGHT. They will last quite some time, this way, if your dog doesn't decide to break them.

Booda plush toys are super durable for plush toys. They have a thin rubber coating under the canvas that is on the outside of the toy. Heres a site:http://www.bamboopet.com/dogs/toys/
