I am afraid I am next to no help on guessing breeds, but you have an adorable pack. I know they keep life interesting.

I agree with you, Gina. Some people in my little town have a Shar-Pei and a Shar-Pei/ Yellow Lab mix. So, the mottling of this coat was throwing me off for a moment until I read your post.

i think cow dog and shar pei add up pretty well, we were told shar pei and bull terrier.....

Actually, another breed doesn't even have to account for the coloring. Shar Pei have a recessive "flowered" gene. Here's an article on the flowered color with

Also, I don't think she has any Bull Terrier. Her head would be shaped totally differently, at least slightly egg shaped.

very great info thanks, she looks very much like those flowered shar pei's, she is very muscular thouh do shar pei's have that much defined muscle? ill try and take a picture

Yup, they can have muscular bodies. To me, your girl's body looks like the first Shar Pei pictured in my post above. The shortest coat length (horsecoat) shows their body definition the best. Your girl has longer legs, tail, and body than Shar Pei usually have, so I think she's probably mixed with one breed or another. Other than that, she really resembles the traditional type of Shar Pei that had a "bone mouth". The "meat mouth" is much more common now. See link below with

Horsecoats also tend to have a leaner build like your girl. Brushcoats usually have heavier bone and are stockier. But, the easiest way to tell them apart at first is by looking at the tail- horsecoats have a "naked" tail and brushcoats have a bushier tail. If you're interested, here's some info on the two accepted coat lengths for Shar Pei, brushcoat and horsecoat:

She also has a black spot on her tongue about the size of a nickel.....
