Oh my heavens.
It's got to be a scare tactic.
I don't personally care - I have no invested interested in AKC at all. But I feel for my friends who do (however misguided I may quietly consider them, lol).
I was kind of creeped out reading the minutes of the Kennel Club delegates' meeting. I'm used to reading the minutes of our working registry - lots about the welfare of the BREED, with just enough about the registry to assure me that the registry won't collapse from mishandling of the business aspect.
I was amazed at the arrogance of the AKC meeting minutes. "Years ago we were the only game in town . . .now we have 23 competitors . . ." First of all, several of the "competitors" are the original or working (or both) breed registries who chose to remain independent because they don't LIKE the AKC. The Kennel Club's policies continue to alienate more and more people all the time, but it's been going on for a LONG time, whether they choose to acknowlege the fact or not.
And what is their response, now that they've finally figured out they have a problem? Listening to what their members want? Becoming more responsive? Making their "product" more attractive? Doing more for the welfare of the dogs, regardless of how it may undermine the power of the Westminister breeders at the top?
Nope, they take it out on the "hoi poloi" - the majority of small time breeders who are in it for the love of their breed, participants in performance events, and in my opinion, on the dogs. [sm=banghead002.gif]
