Does your dog recognize certain words?

HA. . .just thought of another one. . .I got up from the couch to get a glass of water and someone decided to keep my spot warm for me.  So, I walked in the room and there she is in my spot, wagging her tail. . .I was thinking "oh, hell no, she must be crazy".  But, told her "gotta get up" which I've used since she came her and off she went.  Offended, but off she went.

kitty/ies--she runs to the door looking for the outside cats
Here, kitty, kitty--we joke that this is her other REAL name since she answers it along with the cats (they might get some attention that Ms. Attention Hog won't get!).

All of the dogs are obedience trained with hand signals, but they also have a "vocabulary"
    Shooter- Leave it
                  Where's your frog?
                   Potty
                   Hurry up
Chyna- Where's pinky? (her stuffed pig)
                 Let's go to work
Do you need to potty? (she answers with a whine if she needs to go)
    Brinxx- Get the ball
                 Go find the baby (Shooter)
                 Are you hungry?
    Bevo- Bed (mine)
              Go lay down (his bed)
Let's go see Dr. Bob (he goes to work with me daily)
              Find the remote
              Find the keys
              Find Shooter
              Find your frisbee
              Find your football
Find your baby (I guess I lose a lot of stuff)
              Get your food bowl

And everyone's favorite "Beer Me" he does this at parties or family gatherings, he can open the cooler and retrieve a beer, coke or whatever can is in the cooler and deliver it.  This is the most entertaining thing, except now he thinks that any can is his to deliver.

Well, now folks, we all KNOW that dogs don't understand English! [8|]  That's why I can talk to them and they GET so much of what I'm saying.

With Rusty I started with his pills, but I'd ALWAYS talked to my dogs just like I'd talk to a person.  Dr. X says this will make you feel better....piece of JUST cheese and I'd TELL him, this is JUST cheese, now this one has your pill, etc.  Rusty would lay perfectly still for his IV fluids.....cuz mom said that they were super important and he really HAD to have them 4X a week.

The MS Walk this summer is another good example.  Tyler is the pup who wasn't trainable according to his "new" people, so he came home.  On the way to town I talked to Tyler and told him how very important the walk was and I needed for him to be extra good.  This pup was not quite a year old and he was sooooo  totally focused on the walk.  The volunteers would try to give him water...nope, not taking any unless MOM says to take a drink and then I'll take a few slurps to make her happy.  Forget making new friends DURING the walk, forget talking treats from even Mom.....this is an important walk, and I'm gonna WALK.  He wouldn't even potty until we got back to the Civic Center and then he went up a hill and away from the path.

There are just so many things during the course of each and every day that make me know with absolute certainty that my crew, while they might not "get" each and every word, knows exactly what I'm saying 90% of the time.

    But, dogs don't understand English......[:D]

Scout hasn't been with us long enough to pick up any particular phrases other than what we've intentionally trained her on.

Sophie, mom's chihuahua, knows the following:

"Don't look at people when they're eating" (she reluctantly lays down in the other direction. How she got this I have no idea.)

    "Squirrel!"

"Go Sophie Go!" (zoomies around the house)

"Uppity up" (the ridiculous phrase we taught her instead of just "off")
