How did your dog get it's name?!?

I have always been a fan of the Beatles. On the White Album is a song called "Sexy Sadie." I thought that would be a cool name for a dog.

When we brought her home, I asked my husband what he wanted to name her,and he said it was up to me, so I named her Sadie, but in my heart she is "Sexy Sadie."

Interesting topic. My Dugan was named by his breeder when he was first born. She does that for identification purposes for the vet and her web site. I just got used to referring to him as Dugan or Doogie for eight weeks before I got him
and the name suited him. My other poodle Madison was named after Madison, Wisconsin where I had my kidney/pancreas transplant 6 years ago. I spent alot of time in Madison and always thought it would be a cute girl's name.

Freddy came with his name.  I never expected to adopt a boy
so I didn't have any names in mind.  We were lucky enough
to get him in a puppy class the second day he was in my home.
The first lesson was teach them to love their names.  I had
nothing.  We'd been calling him Puppy Chow.  So he instantly
became Freddy Chow.  Can't say I love it, but it's grown on me.

We named our doberman Sergeant because dobermans were very popular a long time ago in the military.  So we wanted ours to have a military name.  His full name is Sergeant Goose McGibeny.  Call name Sergeant.

For our cane corso Jake, his name is from the song "Feed Jake".  His full name is Texas Finest Luigi's Thor.  Call name Jake.

Our puppy's full name is Doogie Schnauzer MD. He is a miniature schnauzer and we call him Doogie. Our other choices were Dr. Farley, Proffessor (insert English name here) , and Carlton. We think Schnauzers look so intelligent b/c of their crazy eyebrows, and hair around their nose (They just deserve a classy name)  : ) But Doogie won hands down. We always get a giggle when we introduce him as Doogie Schnauzer though!
Although Sexy Sadie, if we would have got a girl I also would have voted for Sadie. I have wanted to name a girl pet that forever : ) Soooo cute.

Joey , my chinese crested had a "pony" cut when I got him, so it looked like he had a mullet. So it would only be appropriate to name him Joey after Joe Dirt :)

    HEHEHEHEHE!  That's pretty funny!!

Tojo is named after Hideki Tojo, leader of Japan during WWII. I thought I'd give him a japanese name, since he's a shiba inu, and I stumbled across an article about Hideki Tojo on the internet before we got him (but we knew we were getting him). My Nana was pretty upset that we named him Tojo, because she says her and her friends used to burn Hideki Tojo in effigy! Granted, Tojo the person was pretty terrible. He was executed for war crimes!

We wanted a military name for our doberman, so we named him Sergeant.  My husband named our cane corso from a  song he likes.  The song is "Feed Jake".  So our corso's name is Jake.

We got Marley in December. The kids wanted to name her a Christmas name but I said no to any of the reindeer's names. So she was named after Jcob Marley from The Christmas CArol.

Guinness is a tricolor dog. DH loves beer. When you pour a guinness it is tricolored until the foam settles on top. So Guinness she is.

When I got Abby we had a long discussion about her name. I wanted Saint Abby, Well my husband liked the Abby but wanted the Road added for the Beatles record. So I said ok it could also be the long road that leads to the Abby in the mountains.

Our new guy is Caleb Takoda.  Caleb was my husband's 4th great grandfather's name.  We both really like the name, and since we're done having kids, decided that's what our next dog's name would be.  I thought we needed something to complete his name.  We were thinking of using the last name of my husband's ancestor.  But my husband came up with Takoda- a Native American word meaning friend to everyone.  Oh, and Caleb means bold, faithful, devoted dog.

Until Caleb, our dogs always had beer names.  First was our Husky/GSD mix, Heineken.  Than the one and only Michelob (Mick).

which one of their names , they have many lol[:D]

Jessie, my sibe husky, well, it just fit somehow. She's also Jessie blue (one blue eye) ms doodles and missy prissy.

my sheltie mix /or mini aussie got saddled with Branagin. Irish for raven. he's primarily black and at times he will gather his little toys in a circle, get in the middle and curl up for an nap. since ravens "hoard" their treasures and trinkets in their nests, it just fit.  And I like it better than Bandit. He responded best to that "a" sound. His full name Branagin, Bandit of my heart.  He has lots of nicknames too. like Wiggles, monkey boy (cuz he makes funny little grunting sounds in your ear) pumkin to name a few.
