    You're very welcome.
I am not knowledgable regarding clicker training but have seen some dogs really work well on it so I'm in the same place you are there. I was at a club meeting yesterday where one of our members is training one of her Am Staffs in a clicker class. She noted that she found it's quicker to "click" then to say "good dog" I find that interesting as the reward would be faster thus enforcing the behavior or action that is wanted but my brain can't compute the click treat actions myself...LOL! Maybe if life was slower!

    BTW...a little off topic...LOVE the avitar...nice red nose, Your's?

Two things on the clicker that always stick in my head, one is that I've found as far as i can tell, I can say good just as fast as I can click. Also does a millasecond (
Thanks, his name his Tank. He's very special to me.

I would love to discuss CM privately if that would be the only civil way to do it...I too can get nasty in defense and have gone down with many a ship!  I don't mind the challenging views..it's the piss poor attitudes that usually go with them...I don't understand clicker either.  I'm not that coordinated to think "Ok, now click...ok, now give treat"  clicking always seemed so impersonal.  A happy "Yes!"  Seems to work better for me and keeps one hand free..[sm=wink.gif]

As for now I've played enough here, and now it's time to get back to work, My guess is we could have a interesting conversation, even if you disagree with my views. There would be know one there for the simple reason other than to pick a fight (this person knows who they are). So if you have a question, feel free to ask.

You have all lost sight of what cm teaches-respect for where the dog came from, and where the dog is today--i can give several testimonies-my husband hates dogs-got mauled by a s. bernard, bit by a shepard, attacked by a pit-we all love dogs, right? They are still animals, agressive animals-they can bite at will and not think twice. They decided to howl and no one provoked  that-we are and have invaded their space-that is one of the most important things one needs to remember that cm teaches-I have never sen him be abusive, or outwardly cruel, and I am sorry, but I rescue dogs EVERYDAY- and I see that it was who they were with, not the breed-I spend 80% of my time working with dogs that are un-placeable-and this was way before cm's time in the spotlight-, and they get placed! And yes, these techs work forever, eventually, the dog needs no reprimanding at all, of any kind,..I have been one to growl at my dogs, and you can ask anyone that knows me-they listen-oh,...they do listen-I do not hit or kick,m or abuse in any way-but I do listen and observe and understand-just like if I fostered children....

I HAVE fostered human children, terribly damaged children who absolutely could not take being growled at in any way, shape or form.  Gentle, loving, consistent rules and guidelines are the only thing that will work with a damaged child and in my mind, that translates to dogs as well.  It works with MY crew and the fosters who pass through my doors.  The canine fosters that is.

Just have to say here that there a lot of days when the clicker requires more coordination than I'm capable of. "Good Boy - treat" works about as well as "Click - treat" and I can't drop "Good Boy" in the bushes and lose it, as I have done with the clicker.

I've never seen him use "force"

Agreed.  CM is what I aspire to be as a dog trainer.  Someone who understands dogs and knows how to put myself automatically into the "pack leader" position.  I think he's a wonderful attribute for the dog world to hang onto.

Until coming to this forum just now I didn't realize that he and his techniques were so controversial!  [:-]

Meaning, they can answer without having their opinions challenged.

See it however you want, but actually it's so there can be a discussion without the fights. Why does that bother you?

Private discussions are nice and sometimes the more appropriate place for some conversations, but, more or less, that's what email and instant messenger clients are for.  [;)]  This is a forum, made for many people to discuss things together.  I would value a positive discussion about CMs methods on this forum with the input of many people, simply because the amount of knowledge and experience amassed at that point is incredibly valuable and provides more than the opinions or viewpoints of a single user.

Just some basic info-reminder for those reading this thread. There is a special section at the bottom of the training area titled "CM discussions".

This is where you can go if you want to discuss his show, book, methods, and philosophies with others who also want to share helpful information and personal experiences.

And thats exactly what CM does, with a little bit of difference to avoid applying human psychology in dogs [;)]

Yes, definately true, but this loops back to my original disappointment.
