    Strange behavior

Sara has been acting weird. She had been sniffing the air and running through the house like a mad dog. There is nothing outside, but she acts like something is. Also she has been whinning to go out and she never does that.  Then today she barfed when i brought her out. She has never barfed. I called the vet and she said maybe Sara just had an upset tummy and that if i notice anything else to call her cell tonight. She does not seem sick at all, she seems restless. Any ideas?

Am I like a plague this week?

Not at all, I'm just stumped. Ideas that ran through my head - weird weather? the smell of some kind of gas/fumes that are making her nauseous? That's all I can come up with.

You have another thread "Fall is coming." Perhaps she is smelling and reacting to those smells that you mentioned. Firewood, cooking out, etc.

Yeah, I don't have many ideas, either. My mother's vallhund developed a strange fear of the night during his adolescence. As soon as night fell, he'd get very anxious and run around the yard barking at every little odd noise. When he was brought inside, he'd pace around the house, whining and refusing to settle. If he went outside again, he'd just bark non-stop and no one could get him to come back inside again unless they could catch him. Just really freaked out, he was. It happened just after a brief stay in a boarding kennel, so we think something happened there at night that frightened him.

Is there anything that seems to trigger the behaviour? Has anything changed lately? Any strange events that might have had a lasting impression? Just grasping at straws, here.

There is really nothing I can think of that has changed, Last night I'm in bed and I wake up to a fowl smell. I go downstairs to the other side of the house and Sara pooped on the floor. Is was dark and like water. This also has never happened.  I took her outside and she seems fine. She does not give me the impresion that she is sick. I'll see how she does today.

Are you sure it was poop?  could it have been very dark pee, as in a UTI?  The behavior makes me think that way...keep a close eye on it.

No it was for sure poop. A little thick in some spots. And it was rancid smelling. I just called the vet again and she is sticking to upset tummy, and to call her back with any updates.

You could try a spoonful of plain canned pumpkin then, to firm up the stool.  My Vet also has suggested a Pepto Bismal tablet for upset tummies.

Yes i did do the pumpkin last night after the mess. And once again she seems normal.  I was thinking maybe my daughter didn't finish her hotdog the other day and Sara got it before I noticed. We don't give her table food like that. It's the only thing I have been able to think of.

She may have a flu bug or a virus in the gastro-intestinal tract. If she stops eating and drinking you may need a vet visit to dx it and treat it~

My dogs are going nuts these days too. I think it might just be the change in weather. Smells change as the seasons change in quality as well as intensity I imagine. Its like it gets warm and windows are opened and all of a sudden the dogs are barking at EVERYTHING.
