    questions about a rescue

Two days ago we rescued an 11-month old Chi.  Her owner fed and watered her regularly and changed the newspapers under her feet but basically kept her in a 6x8 room and had very little interaction with her.

She wasn't fixed, but she'd had all of her shots.  Our vet said she was physically pretty healthy given the circumstances.

We're crate training her, which is going pretty well, but I'm concerned about how to deal with other issues.  She hadn't had interaction with other dogs since she was 8 weeks.  We did a brief introductory session with our other 2 yesterday, which went okay, I think.  Rosie was very submissive with Winnie and Petey, constantly laying down and rolling onto her back.

But then there are other things, like never having seen grass before.  She was also kept in a pretty quiet area, so noises startle her a lot.  I can also tell that she doesn't seem to have a lot of stamina.

Does anyone have suggestions with dealing with a dog whose come from this situation?

Awwww, thank you for taking her into your home.  I'm sure she will be very thankful to have a good life with you.  It breaks my heart to know her circumstances before.[:(]   Although I am not sure about how to deal with some of those issues, I do know that she needs a lot of love and patience.  She is still a puppy, so she should adjust pretty easily----especially when she sees how fun life really can be!  Keep us posted on her progress.  Oh----and lots of pics!!! [:D]

    Welcome,
My two dogs were pretty scared of everything too, they are retired show dogs so they were not used to a lot of stuff, they got over it really quickly as long as I was calm about it, Brando( used to hit the deck when he heard cars passing if he was outside) now is afraid of nothing, has had a very calming effect on Trixie, she looks to him if he's not scared or nervous she isn't either. I would let the other dogs handle it as they get to know each other

Oh, and I second the we need pictures thing.

Thanks for getting out of there.  We went through something similar w/ Draico, we belive he was kept ouside at all times.  He got along great w/ Peanut, we were lucky.  But, had some house breaking to work on.
I'm sure her stamina will improve in time w/ regular exercise.  She was confined to a room, alone - that was miserable.  Being out in the world is all very knew to her, & probably very scary.  She'll come around in time, be patient.
